Russia intends to propose to Ukraine an extension of the Black Sea Fleet's stay in the Crimea past 2017, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reports.
"We are following the agreements on the Black Sea Fleet to the letter, including those that contain provisions on the possibility of extending the fleet's stay into the period after 2017," he said in a press conference in Moscow. "We are ready to propose to the Ukrainians, at the appropriate moment, discussing the conditions for a further stay. Of course, a concrete discussion of these questions lie ahead at a later stage, closer to 2017, with the government of Ukraine that will be operating at that time."
