Im Unterschied zu den "dummen" Speicherkarten benutzen sie aber asynchrone Protokolle, wie T=0 (byteorientiert) oder T=1 (blockorientiert) mit bis zu 9600 Bit pro Sekunde. Dennoch besitzen beide Kartentypen ein einheitliches Kontaktfeld. Es wäre auch der reine Wahnsinn, wenn jede Kartenart oder sogar jeder Hersteller von Chipkarten ein eigenes Format mitbrächte. Erst durch Industriestandards und internationale Normen ist ein flächendeckender, herstellerunabhängiger Betrieb mit vertretbaren Kosten möglich. Das ist natürlich nicht nur auf das Kontaktfeld begrenzt, sondern fängt schon mit den Abmessungen einer Chipkarte an und geht bis zu ihren Übertragungsprotokollen und Befehlssätzen. Die Standardorganisation mit der größten Bedeutung für Chipkarten ist die International Organisation for Standardization. Ihre Normen beschreiben die wesentlichen Eigenschaften von Karten jeglicher Art. Background

Educated at Repton School (est. 1557), one of Britain's foremost independent schools, where leading names from the world of business, politics, religion, sports and entertainment, such as Sir Vincent de Ferranti, the Lady Mayoress of London, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Harold Abrahams, Roald Dahl and Grahame Garden were educated, Martin Robinshaw went on to complete a degree in Business Management (BTec) at Manchester Metropolitan University in England, and a diploma in Marketing and Computer Studies at Napier College in Edinburgh, Scotland. He then went on to work in sales and marketing on several computer titles including PC User and CadCam International at EMAP Business and Computer Publications, the B-to-B Division of EMAP PLC, one of Europe's largest publishing houses. After several years at EMAP, he subsequently moved on to take up managerial posts at Dennis Publishing Co. Ltd, where he was assistant advertisement manager on Mac User and advertisement manager on Microscope (the then market-leading PC trade weekly). In his first ad agency post before moving to Germany, his position as Key Account Manager for Electronic Technology included developing innovative projects for electronic dialogue marketing. Here, he conceived and managed several projects for Blue Chip companies such as Unilever and Shell.

In Germany and Spain, he has been working as an independent marketing & advertising consultant for English language markets, language services project manager and consultant, translator, editor, proofreader, copy-writer, travel writer and journalist for English language markets since 1996. His client portfolio includes many German, British and US American Blue Chip companies, and several Global leaders in the translation services industry such as Euroscript and the bigword Group.
