LU Bibliotēkas Humanitāro zinātņu bibliotēkā, Visvalža ielā 4a, no 12. janvāra apskatāma izstāde „Maratonas uzvarai - 2500”.
Izstāde „Maratonas uzvarai - 2500” tika veidota Maratonas uzvaras 2500 gadu jubilejas pasākuma ietvaros un atklāta 14. decembrī LU Vēstures muzejā, kur klātesošos uzrunāja Grieķijas vēstniece Latvijā Hrisante Panajotopulu un vēsturisku ieskatu Maratonas kaujas norisē sniedza asociētais profesors Harijs Tumans. Izstāde tapusi LU Bibliotēkas un Grieķijas Republikas vēstniecības Latvijā sadarbības rezultātā. LU Bibliotēka piedāvā iespēju šo izstādi turpmāk aplūkot LU Bibliotēkas Humanitāro zinātņu bibliotēkā līdz 15. februārim.
Maratonas kauja (490 g. p.m.ē.) ir nozīmīga grieķu - persiešu kara epizode. No LU Bibliotēkā pieejamiem avotiem var spriest, ka šī kauja atspoguļota ne vien antīko vēsturnieku un dzejnieku darbos oriģinālvalodā un to tulkojumos dažādās valodās (latviešu, angļu, krievu un vācu valodās), bet arī 19. - 20. gs. zinātnieku pētījumos, mākslā, kā arī daiļliteratūrā. Izstādē ir aplūkojami vairāki antīkie avoti, kuros pieminēta un atainota Maratonas kauja (piemēram, vēsturnieku Tukidīda „Vēsture” un Pausānija „Grieķijas apraksts”). Tāpat izstādes apmeklētāji var iepazīties ar 19. un 20. gs. vēsturnieku, klasiskās filoloģijas pētnieku un zinātnieku darbiem, kas veltīti šim notikumam, piemēram, ar Karla Roberta veikto pētījumu par Maratonas kaujas atainojumu uz Stoa Poikile Atēnu Agorā, ko veidojis Atēnu mākslinieks Polignots.
Izstādē „Maratonas uzvarai - 2500” aplūkojami 11 interesanti un saistoši izdevumi no LU Bibliotēkas krājuma.

Translation - English The 2500th Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon Exhibition

From January 12 till February 15 The 2500th Anniversary of the Battle of Marathon exhibition is presented to visitors at UL, Faculty of Humanities Library, 4a Visvalza Street.
The exhibition is organized by UL Library and the Embassy of Greece in Latvia in honour of the 2500 anniversary of the historical Battle of Marathon. With the official opening on December 14, 2010 at the UL Museum of History, Chrysanthi Panagiotopoulou, the Ambassador of Greece to Latvia, addressed the audience, while Harry Tuman, UL Associate Professor, gave a historical insight into the crucial battle against Persian invaders.
The Battle of Marathon (490 B.C.) was a watershed in the Greco-Persian wars. The exhibition presents descriptions of this historical event written by ancient historians and poets in their native language as well as translations in different languages such as English, German, Latvian, Russian, there are also a collection of the 19 and 20 century scientific studies, art and fiction. Visitors can get acquainted with a number of historical exhibits dedicated to the Marathon Battle, for instance, the works written by two Greek historians – Thucydides’ “The History” and Pausanias’ “Description of Greece”, Carl Roberts’ study on the portrayal of the Marathon painting at the Stoa Poikile in the Athenian Agora created by Polignotes, etc.

Patenta pieteikums bieži ir viens no rezultatīvajiem rādītājiem pētnieciskajos projektos. Patentu pieteikumu un patentu skaits tiek izmantots kā rādītājs zinātniskās institūcijas kapacitātes novērtējumā.
Tomēr ļoti bieži aizmirstam, ka patents ir vispirms ir līdzeklis, kas palīdz noteiktu laiku nosargāt tirgū piedāvāta produkta unikalitāti, palīdzot atgūt ieguldījumus pētniecībā un nopelnīt. Lai labāk prognozētu iespējamā patenta pieteikuma vērtību, kā arī lai vispār izvērtētu patenta iegūšanas izredzes, pirms patenta pieteikuma iesniegšanas nozīmīgi ir veikt patentu meklējumu, izvērtēt esošo tehnisko informāciju, izpētīt kādi konkurenti darbojas tirgū un kādas iespējas radītu patenta pieteikuma iesniegšana. Noteiktās situācijās patents varbūt pat nav labākais risinājums, tomēr, ja plānots ieviest ražošanā jaunu produktu, svarīgi ir pārliecināties, lai netiktu pārkāptas konkurentiem piederošo patentu tiesības.
Lai atbalstītu pētniekus ceļā uz izgudrojumu patentēšanu Latvijas Universitātes Inovāciju centrs / Tehnoloģiju pārneses kontaktpunkts (LU IC/TPK) ir uzsācis Eiropas Patentu iestādes atbalstītā pilotprojekta „Patentu informācijas centru pārveide” īstenošanu. Projekts uzsākts 2010. gada novembrī, IC/TPK darbiniekiem piedaloties Eiropas Patentu iestādes rīkotajās apmācībās par patentu informāciju Minhenē, un to plānots īstenot vismaz līdz 2013. gada beigām. Projekta ietvaros LU IC/TPK darbinieki piedāvā pētniekiem un uzņēmējiem patentu meklējuma, patentu statistiskās analīzes un izgudrojumu komerciālā potenciāla novērtējuma pakalpojumus.
Ja zinātnisko pētījumu gaitā esat attīstījuši potenciāli patentējamu izgudrojumu vai vēlaties ieviest ražošanā produktu, bet neesat pārliecināti, vai nepārkāpsiet trešo personu ar patentu aizsargātās tiesības, kā arī citos līdzīgos gadījumos aicinām sazināties ar LU IC/TPK darbiniekiem, kas centīsies atrast nepieciešamo informāciju, vai sniegs atbalstu un konsultācijas patentu datu bāzu izmantošanā.

A patent application often serves as an indicator of the research performance. The amount of patents and patent applications is used as capacity assessment criteria for scientific institutions.
However, a patent is primarily an instrument which helps for a limited period to protect uniqueness of the product offered on the market, to return on investment and earn licensing money. For better predicting the potential value, as well as assessing chances of obtaining a patent before filing an application, it is essential to conduct a patent prior search, evaluate the existing technical information, investigate any competitors acting on the market and weigh up the future perspectives. In certain situations, patenting might not be the best solution; however, if a new product is to be launched in the market, it is important to make sure that the patent rights of competitors should not be broken.
Supporting researchers to patent their innovations the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at the University of Latvia with the assistance of the European Patent Office is currently working on the Patent Information Centre Reorganization Pilot Project. It was initiated in November, 2010 when the Centre’s staff participated in training on patent information management organized by the European Patent Office in Munich. The Project will run until the end of 2013. Within the Project the staff offers researchers and entrepreneurs patent search possibilities, patent statistical analysis and evaluation of the commercial potential of an invention.
All who developed a potentially patentable invention or wanted to introduce a new product but are not sure to infringe the patent-protected third party’s rights, etc., can contact the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at the University of Latvia. Its staff will be ready to help and find necessary information, to give their support and advice.
