Microprocessor Logic
To understand how a microprocessor works, it is helpful to look inside and learn about the logic used to create one. In the process you can also learn about assembly language -- the native language of a microprocessor -- and many of the things that engineers can do to boost the speed of a processor.
A microprocessor executes a collection of machine instructions that tell the processor what to do. Based on the instructions, a microprocessor does three basic things:
•Using its ALU (Arithmetic/Logic Unit), a microprocessor can perform mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Modern microprocessors contain complete floating point processors that can perform extremely sophisticated operations on large floating point numbers.
•A microprocessor can move data from one memory location to another.
•A microprocessor can make decisions and jump to a new set of instructions based on those decisions.

Characteristics and In-Hospital Outcomes of Patients With Cardiac Tamponade Complicating Type A Acute Aortic Dissection
Cardiac tamponade (TMP) is a life-threatening complication of acute type A aortic dissection (AAD). The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical characteristics and in-hospital outcomes of TMP in the setting of AAD on the basis of the findings in the large cohort of the International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection (IRAD). Six hundred seventy-four patients (mean age 61.8 ± 14.2 years) with AAD in IRAD were studied. TMP was suspected on clinical grounds and confirmed by diagnostic imaging. Univariate testing was followed by multivariate logistic regression analysis to determine the association of TMP. TMP was detected in 126 patients with AAD (18.7%). El taponamiento cardiaco (TC) es una complicación de la disección aórtica aguda (DAA) tipo A que puede poner en riesgo la vida del paciente. El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar las características clínicas y los resultados intrahospitalarios del taponamiento cardiaco en una DAA en base a las conclusiones obtenidas en la gran cohorte del Registro Internacional de Disección Aórtica Aguda (IRAD). The authors explain: "For most widely used antimicrobial agents, dosing recommendations in adults do not take into account adjustment to body size measures. Even when such recommendations are made for an agent, the degree of their application in routine clinical practice can be inadequate."
For instance, a male patient with community-acquired pneumonia who weighs 90 kg and is 1.90 m tall (198 pounds and 6.2 feet) has a calculated lean body mass twice that of a female patient who weighs 56 kg and is 1.50 m tall (123 pounds and 4.9 feet). Still, they both have a body-mass index of 24•9 kg/m², within the healthy weight range. However, according to present treatment guidelines, these patients would both receive the same dosage of antibiotics. In addition to this kind of disparities, the obesity epidemic suggests there are many more patients with increased weight worldwide.

ELEMENTS OF MUSIC
Music is the organisation of sound into melody (pitch) and rhythm (time). This is the basic structure on which a composer (or orchestrator) will add further elements including harmony, timbre and dynamics.
Composition (on its most basic level of “writing a good tune”) will often involve only the rhythm and melody, however in “western tonal music” the melody usually implies the harmony. Exceptions to this include a lot of pop/dance or rap music of the last two decades. Traditionally a composer or composer/lyricist team wrote the basic tune (melody and rhythm) and words along with any further orchestrational development, or else would get a dedicated orchestrator to do the latter.
In vocal music either the words (lyric) or the music could be written first, or both at the same time.
Most forms of pop and jazz music combine all the above elements. The basic melody usually consists of notes of different pitches (even rapping often varies the pitch and intonation) which are organised in time (rhythm). This is usually arranged against a backing provided by a rhythm section which can consists either of musicians or a programmed track (typically drums/percussion – bass –piano/guitar).
