You know, drop the extra syllables, attach an “s” and there’s your plural. But no, English has its peculiarities when it comes to making single nouns plural, or using plural nouns in the singular. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of how a word is spelled, although much can also depend on whether its Latin or Greek roots are showing. On ajouterait un « s » à la fin du mot, peu importe son genre, et le tour serait joué. Mais non!
