English to German: The purpose behind restructuring General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Business/Commerce (general)
Source text - English The primary purpose behind restructuring is to find an organizational structure that will help the company meet its goals . Commonly, the existing structure is seen as too rigid or too complex, with too many divisions, departments and layers of management. In such cases, restructuring tries to simplify the organization and make it more responsive by reducing the number of divisions and cutting out layers of management. Other, less laudable reasons for restructuring exist. Fad-prone managers are often attracted to new forms such as matrix organizations or network organizations, believing these to be more efficient, regardless of whether they actually fit the organization’s purpose. Sometimes methods of restructuring are carried to extremes. Business process re-engineering, a perfectly sound set of techniques when used to understand and design process flows, was overused and misapplied.
