Bio
I'm a professional freelance translator and also a professional writer, proofreader and copy editor. My native language is English; I'm a U.S. and Irish citizen and am familiar with both American and British usage. I have lived in Paris, France for 25 years; five years in Germany; and four years in the U.K. I have also lived in the Netherlands, Ireland, and Taiwan.

My main strength is that my English is very strong. I have an excellent vocabulary and don't make mistakes in English grammar (well, hardly ever! no one is perfect). I'm also good at research and verifying facts.

I have a B.A. in Chinese Studies from Yale and read classical Chinese every day. After many years of volunteer translation, I returned to school to get a Masters in Translation (French and German to English), from the École supérieure d'interprètes et de traducteurs (ESIT) of the University of Paris/Sorbonne Nouvelle in 2013, where I was trained in the latest techniques including CAT tools.

My main translation interests are: history, China, names/onomastics, travel and tourism (especially France, Germany, Ireland, UK, USA), current events, and children's literature.

I also proofread, edit and copy-edit Chinese and other foreign writers' articles in English. I am a published writer and editor of articles on various subjects including population, the environment, education in France, digital technology, names, and Paris tourism. I am interested in names and contributed a short piece on French surnames to The Oxford Handbook of Names and Naming (2016). I read Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Chinese, and to some extent, Irish.
