With the exception of a two-year spell spent in Stockholm, working as translator and editor for Nordregio, a Nordic institution for comparative spatial planning and regional policy, I have been working as a full-time translator for the past twelve years. Since the beginning of 1997 I have managed my own translation business, Scriptorium, after the volume of translation work had grown so much I could not manage it on my own any longer. I have been working primarily as an independent translator following a three-year period of employment at the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There I served as in-house translator and section supervisor for the Icelandic translations of the EU regulations, which were done as part of the preparation for the European Economic Area.
