An der Stätte seines ersten WM-Triumphs mit Ferrari will Formel-1-Ass Michael Schumacher den mit seinem Team hadernden Titelverteidiger Fernando Alonso am liebsten schon morgen früh (7 Uhr MESZ) in Suzuka abservieren. „Es wird sicher ein toller Fight - ich liebe so etwas", schwärmte Schumacher nach dem Qualifying, das überraschend der Brasilianer Felipe Massa für sich entschied, und ließ keinen Zweifel am großen Ziel: „Wir sind alle heiß auf die Titel."
Kaum ein Ort könnte für den Karaoke-Fan besser sein, um seinen achten WM-Titel einzufahren, als die Strecke in Japan, auf der vorerst zum letzten Mal gefahren wird. Zwei (2000 und 2003) seiner sieben WM-Titel hat er dort fixiert, insgesamt sechs Mal (1995 im Benetton, den Rest im Ferrari) hat er auf der in einem Vergnügungspark liegenden Strecke gewonnen.
Trotz Punktegleichheit (116:116) heißt es vor den Rennen in Japan sowie seinem 250. und letzten Grand Prix am 22. Oktober in Sao Paulo: Vorteil Schumacher. Dank seiner sieben Saisonsiege gegenüber den sechs Erfolgen von Alonso liegt der Deutsche vorn. Sollte er auch in Suzuka gewinnen und Alonso leer ausgehen, tritt Schumacher nur noch zum Schaulaufen in Brasilien an und anschließend ab.

Schumi left no doubt about his intentions: “Everybody is keen on the title.”
For the karaoke fan, there is hardly a better place to pocket his eighth championship than at the Japanese circuit, where this will be the last race for the time being. Here Schumacher tied up two (2000 and 2003) of his seven titles, taking the race a total of six times (1995 with Benetton, otherwise driving Ferrari) on this track, next to an amusement park.
With the contenders tied at 116 points each, the odds are nevertheless in Schumacher’s favour going into the race in Japan as well as his 250th, and last, Grand Prix on October 22 in Sao Paolo. Thanks to seven victories this season the driver from Germany leads Alonso with six wins. If he takes Suzuka, with Alonso bagging no points, Schumacher will merely put in a token appearance in Brazil, only to retire afterwards.

Fouad, ein sechzigjähriger Geschäftsmann, libanesischer und österreichischer Abstammung, fährt mit seinem halb so alten Kollegen Jacques in geschäftlicher Mission in die steirischen Alpen, wo er in seiner Jugend die Sommerferien verbracht hat. Unter dem Vorwand die Firma Lodenwalker finden zu müssen, unternehmen die beiden lange Spaziergänge durch Wiesen und Wälder. Dabei erzählt Fouad von der Flucht seiner Mutter aus der Enge des Nachkriegswiens in das mondäne Leben eines Kasinostars in Beirut. Palmengesäumte Boulevards und seidenbestrumpfte Beine! Fouad evoziert Welten, die es nicht mehr gibt und verspürt zusehends ein tiefes Gefühl der Fremdheit in dieser Landschaft aus der er kommt.
Sprachlich steht der Film in der Tradition von Duras (India Song), Resnais (Hiroshima mon Amour) und Akerman (Jeanne Dielman). Die Monologe, die Patric Chiha geschrieben hat, erreichen mühelos die Qualität der großen Vorbilder. Sie sind präzise und entwickeln starke suggestive Kraft.
Der großartige Schauspieler Alain Libolt, der vor allem als Rohmer-Schauspieler bekannt ist, spielt die Rolle des Sohnes, Julien Lucas die des jungen Geschäftspartners. Claudia Martini ist die österreichische Jugendliebe.
Home wurde als einer von sechs Filmen, aus 200 eingereichten Filmprojekten beim Dezemberwettbewerb zur Förderung durch den CNC ausgewählt. Der Film wird Anfang Oktober 2006 fertiggestellt. Though its running time is only 50 minutes, the film is - Dank seiner ausserordentlichen Qualität - selected to run in the Viennale competition for feature films & is one of the propositions of the Festival Director Hans Hurch.

Fouad is a 60-year-old businessman with roots in Lebanon and Austria. He takes a business trip with his colleague Jacques, who is half as old, to the Styrian alps, a place where he spent his summer holidays as a youth. Under the pretext of needing to find the Lodenwalker company (a fuller of loden fabric), the two of them take extended treks through the forests and meadows. Along the way Fouad relates how his mother fled the narrow confines of post-war Vienna to pursue an urbane lifestyle as a casino star in Beirut. Boulevards fringed with palm trees and legs sporting silk stockings: as he evokes images of worlds no longer in existence, Fouad begins to feel more and more a stranger in this landscape from which he originated.
The language of the film stands in the tradition of Duras (India Song), Resnais (Hiroshima mon Amour) and Akerman (Jeanne Dielman). The monologues, written by Patric Chiha, are precise and generate a strong suggestive power, thus easily attaining to the level of quality set forth by these great models.
Alain Libolt, the distinguished actor known foremost for his roles in Rohmer films, plays the part of the son, while Julien Lucas performs the role of the young business partner. Claudia Martini appears in the role of the young love from Austria.
Home was selected as one of six films to be funded by the CNC, from among 200 film projects submitted in the December competition. The film will be completed by the beginning of October 2006. Although the film runs only for 50 minutes, due to its extraordinary quality it has been selected to participate in the Viennale competition for feature films and is one of the films proposed by festival director Hans Hurch.

Influenzmaschine
Anwendung:
Die Influenzmaschine ist ein Gerät zur Erzeugung sehr hoher Gleichspannungen. Sie trennt und verstärkt kontinuierlich Ladungen auf metallischen Lamellen durch Influenz. Dies geschieht solange, bis die Lamellenladung so groß ist, daß sie auf die seitlichen Abgreifbügel überspringen kann und von dort auf die Kugelelektroden gelangt. Ist der Ladungsunterschied zwischen den beiden Kugelelektroden genügend groß, so erfolgt ein Überschlag. Zwei Leidenerflaschen (Hochspannungskondensatoren) können mit Hebeln parallel dazu geschaltet werden. Die in den Leidenerflaschen gespeicherte Energie verstärkt beim Überschlag den Funken (Blitz).
Die erreichbare Spannung ist abhängig von atmosphärischen Einflüssen wie Luftdruck, Temperatur und Feuchtigkeit sowie von der Scheibendrehzahl und der Stellung der Ausgleichsleiter.
Die Maschine erzeugt bis zu 160.000 V und 20…30 µA. Funkenlänge max. 100 mm.
Funktionsweise:
Die Wimshurst-Maschine nutzt Restladungen auf den Lamellen und gehört daher zu den sogenannten “selbsterregenden” Maschinen. Die Polarität der abgegebenen Hochspannung liegt daher nicht von vornherein fest, sie hängt vielmehr von der Polarität des Ladungsrestes bei der Inbetriebnahme ab.
Die Maschine erzeugt ein elektrisches Feld zwischen den Kugelelektroden bzw. den Punkten A1 und A2. Die Lage der Ausgleichsleiterbürsten B1, B2 bzw. B3, B4 ist zu beachten. Wir gehen davon aus, daß die Lamelle M9 eine kleine positive Restladung trage. Durch Influenz werden die Ladungen auf der Lamelle L7 getrennt (siehe untenstehende Zeichnung). Gegenüber Lamelle M9 (scheibenseitig) liegen die negativen Ladungsträger, die Positiven lagern auf der Oberfläche, die der Bürste B2 zugewandt ist. Die Lamelle L1 erhält über den Ausgleichsleiter B1 also eine geringe positive Ladung. Lamelle L1 kommt durch Drehung in Stellung L2 und dann nach L3. Hier steht ihr der Ausgleichsleiter B3 gegenüber. Auf ihm wird negative Ladung influenziert und die positiven Ladungsträger nach Lamelle M7 gedrückt. Verfolgen wir Lamelle M1 auf seinem Weg über M2 und M3. Hier erregt die Ladung von Lamelle M3 eine positive Ladung auf der gerade gegenüberliegenden Lamelle L1 und drückt die entsprechende negative Ladung nach Lamelle L7. Die positiv gewordene Lamelle L1 kommt wieder nach L3 und erregt dort von neuem den Aufladeverstärkungsvorgang. Außerdem kommt Lamelle L3 in die Stellung L5 und gibt dort seine Ladung zum Verbrauch an A1 ab. Diese Vorgänge wiederholen sich fortlaufend und schließen den Aufladezyklus bis zur Entladung zwischen den Kugelelektroden oder über den Verbraucher.

Wimshurst machine
Use:
The Wimshurst machine is a device for generating very high DC voltages. Using electrostatic induction, it continuously separates and reinforces charges collecting on metal strips. This continues until the charges on the strips are so strong that they jump over to the tapping arms on the side and then collect on the spherical electrodes. Once the difference between the charges of the two spherical electrodes reaches a sufficient magnitude, a spark jumps from one electrode to the other. Two Leyden jars (high voltage capacitors) can be connected in parallel to the instrument by means of lever rods. The energy stored in the Leyden jars reinforces the spark when it jumps (flash).
The amount of voltage that may be achieved is dependent on atmospheric influences such as air pressure, temperature and humidity as well as on the speed of the disc and the position of the compensating conductor arms.
The machine can generate up to 160,000 V and 20-30 µA. Maximum spark length 100 mm.
Functioning:
The Wimshurst machine utilizes the residual charges on the metal strips and belongs therefore to the group of “self-exciting” machines. The polarity of the high voltage that is discharged is not, therefore, predetermined, rather it depends on the polarity of the residual charges present when the machine begins operating.
The machine generates an electrical field between the spherical electrodes i.e. between points A1 and A2. Pay attention to the position of the conductor arm brushes (B1 and B2, B3 and B4). In the following, we assume that strip M9 has a small positive residual charge. The charges on metal strip L7 are separated due to electrostatic induction (refer to diagram below). Particles carrying negative charges are opposite strip M9 (on the disc side), while the positive charges collect on the surface facing brush B2. Strip L1 thus receives a slightly positive charge compared with conductor arm B1. During rotation, strip L1 is positioned first at L2 then at L3. At this point it is opposite conductor arm B3. A negative charge is electrostatically induced in this arm, while positive charges are repelled toward strip M7. Let’s follow strip M1 further as it travels on to M2 and M3. Here the charge on strip M3 excites a positive charge in the strip currently opposite it, i.e. L1, and conversely repels the negative charge toward strip L7. Strip L1, which has become positively charged, returns to L3 and there excites once again the process which reinforces the charge. In addition, L3 takes up position L5 and there gives off its charge to A1 to be consumed. These processes continue repeatedly until the charging cycle comes to an end with a discharge taking place between the spherical electrodes or through a device consuming electricity.
