*Rumble!*
Crystal clear spring water continuously flowed from a white canteen.
Under the white canteen was a half-nude marble statue. The statue was depicting a poised, long-haired maiden. In her eyes, there was an expression of indolence and perplexity. One hand was tugging on the skirt on her lower body, and the other hand was holding a white canteen upside down.
The spring water gathered below, forming a small pond. Different colored pebbles and fishes in the pool were reflecting the light.
Next to the pond were was a small garden. Inside the garden were different coloured flowers of unknown names. Different fragrances were mixed together, but it didn’t feel jumbled; instead it provided a unique scent that made one feel refreshed.
Leylin leisurely walked around the garden before returning to the villa.
This was the new villa that he had recently rented for a year. The address was: Nightless City Zone 3, Large Whale Street #56.
There were very strict regulations for each of the three zones.
The zones above the third one were only for official Magi and trade, with the exception of some specialised servants that were permitted to pass through.
This villa had a huge area, and its magic defenses against spells were also strong. According to Leylin, a level 3 acolyte, or even an official Magus, would have no chances of entering. If they wanted to destroy this place, it would require a huge amount of effort from them.
However, Leylin still wanted to add some modifications and more defensive spell formations to this place.
Regarding the spell formations that the Nightless City had, Leylin didn’t trust them enough.
In the area around Leylin’s villa, there was another Magi. Previously, there was even a red haired old man who waved to Leylin. He seemed quite friendly.
*Click!*
They sound of a copper key entering the lock could be heard, followed by the sound of a door opening with a squeak.
With his hands clasped behind his back, Leylin leisurely strolled around his villa.
This villa had 3 floors, two of them being above ground, and also a basement.
The apparatuses in the lab were very complete, and the furniture and other things were up to date, making Leylin feel that he had truly received his money’s worth.
The bedroom was on the second floor and even had an open balcony.
Leylin stood on the balcony and observed the distant scenery.
The sun was setting; the dark curtain of night gradually enveloping the surroundings.
*Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!*
By the side of the road, one lantern after another was being lit, extending far into the distance.
The little spots of light had an effect as they lit together, finally forming a huge body of light.
A bright — but not blinding — light flooded the entirety of the Nightless City.
“No wonder that Teljose City was referred to as the Nightless City!” Leylin exclaimed.
While he was used to this kind of setting in his previous life, the Magus world was different. A huge amount of energy was needed to be able to support this many lights, and perhaps only the volcano’s never-ending geothermal energy could barely support the city’s needs.
*Ding!*
Something like an incandescent light bulb lit up inside Leylin’s room.
“All of this energy, this overbearing splendor, is provided by the communal centre free of charge!”
Leylin shook his head and commanded, “A.I. Chip scan the whole villa, and in addition, try to modify the defensive spell formations!”
Following Leylin’s command, a spot of glittering and sparkling blue light flashed in his eyes.
[Beep! The overall layout of the villa has been recorded, no tracking spells have been detected!]
The response from the A.I. Chip came after a very short amount of time.
[According to the Host’s request, modifying the spell formation of the entire villa allows an optimization of 13%…]
Afterwards, the A.I. Chip projected the places where the spell formation needed to be altered in front of Leylin’s eyes.
“Spell formations requires extreme fine-tuning, and once they are altered, even the places where they were previously concealed will be exposed…”
With a confident smile, Leylin brought out some materials from his bag in order to alter the villa’s spell formations.
By the time that Leylin had hurriedly finished his work, it was already midnight.
Leylin then placed a warning spell outside his bedroom, before reclining on his soft bed.
The effort of constantly running while covering his back to prevent assassination attempts from the Lilytell Family had caused Leylin to be mentally exhausted.
Now that he had finally reached his destination, even the Lilytell family couldn’t do anything inside the Nightless City. Leylin felt like a huge mountain had been lifted from his shoulders, allowing him to relax completely.
“Speaking of which, I only have these things left ever since I left the academy…”
Leylin opened the package and emptied its contents onto the bed.
A silver colored metallic hoop, a couple of separately packaged flowers and such, and an assortment of different materials and magic crystals appeared in front of Leylin.
First, Leylin brought out the metallic hoop.
This was the spoil of his fight against the clone. It was a counterfeit Hoop of Imprisonment recovered from the body of the Lilytell elder’s clone. Even if it was a counterfeit, this magic artifact was still a middle-grade artifact. At that time, if it wasn’t for the fact that Leylin had activated his Fallen Star Pendant, he might not have been able to escape the confinement of this magic artifact.
According to the A.I. Chip, there were no hidden traps, so Leylin took it for his own use. He was planning to later alter it, or just simply sell it.
Ever since Leylin’s advancement, the A.I. Chip also received a huge upgrade.
A lot of things that he couldn’t discern back when he was an acolyte were now laid bare before him.
That Lilytell elder was simply at the level of a rank 1 Magus, and couldn’t hide anything from Leylin.
“Also, these ingredients need to be used soon. I’ve kept them for too long, and their medicinal properties are decreasing…”
Leylin looked at the several remaining stalks of plants and flowers which were under some preservation spells.
This was his loot from the Dylan Gardens. Previously, he had harvested them in a hurry, so their current appearance was not too pretty. Afterwards, he had been on the run, so he could not find much time to add more layers of preservation and maintenance spells. Hence, they currently were in a rather withered and dried up state.
A black diary lay quietly at the side. It was the Book of Giant Serpent, and even now Leylin had to flip through it every once in a while.
Although he had recorded everything with the A.I. Chip, Leylin still felt that the methods of the great Magus Serholm did not just end with the writings.
Moreover, the materials used to make the Book of Giant Serpent were extremely strange. The amount of information it could store was alarming, which gave Leylin the urge to conduct more research on it.
What was left was the Fallen Star Pendant hanging on Leylin’s neck, as well as some magic crystals and some other miscellaneous items.
Everything that was present, if added together, was all of what Leylin had.
“A rank 1 Warlock wishing to advance must never lack in the meditation and bloodlines. If not, just based on hard work, it is simply too difficult. One requires the aid of resources!”
High-grade meditation technique required precious resources as a complement and they were extremely precious. Some even existed only back in ancient times, and they have been extinct by now.
Leylin summed up his wealth and realised that he would at most lead a comfortable life in Nightless City. If he thought of relying on what he currently had to obtain enough resources to advance into a rank 2 Warlock, it was no difference from a pipe dream.
Subconsciously, he looked at his current stats.

Every day, Leylin did not neglect his cultivation in a high-grade meditation technique. The Kemoyin’s Pupil was indeed a well-suited meditation technique for his bloodline. Leylin could feel that his spiritual force was growing at a steady pace daily.
As for the progress of the elemental essence conversion, it was not that satisfying.
“According to the records of the meditation technique, the conversion progress is more difficult the higher it is. The stages of a semi-converted elemental Magus of 50% and a Magus with an elemental essence conversion of 80% especially are two bottlenecks. I wonder how many Magi had been obstructed from advancement because of this!”
Leylin’s face was somewhat solemn, “Right now my spiritual force could be increased with a high-grade meditation technique, and my bloodline is extremely pure. These two aspects do not require further planning for now. The only thing holding me back right now is the progress of the elemental essence conversion!”

As for the aspect of bloodlines, he had obtained the purified blood of an ancient creature, the Giant Kemoyin Serpent. This creature, in its mature stages, could reach the level of a rank 4 Magus — a Morning Star Magus.
Right now Leylin was just a rank 1 Warlock, and with respect to the concentration of his bloodline — it could most likely surpass a pre-pubescent Giant Kemoyin Serpent. Every day, he could feel the strength of the bloodline affecting his body. According to Leylin’s estimations, his second transition stage ever since obtaining the bloodline was soon approaching.
These two aspects left Leylin extremely satisfied. The one thing slowing down his progress was the elemental essence conversion.
The elemental essence conversion progress seemed to have something to do with the aptitude of a Magus’ soul. As for Leylin, he only had a third-grade aptitude, which was a common, middle tiered aptitude.
The higher the aptitude of a soul, the faster the conversion would naturally become. People like Leylin could only slowly improve through the passing of time.
Leylin was, however, on the wanted list of a Magus family, so naturally, he did not want such a slow progress.
Apart from relying on time to progress, some precious ingredients could also hasten the progress of the elemental essence conversion.
However, Leylin looked at the ingredients on his bed.
“The Book of Giant Serpent must never be sold! The Fallen Star Pendant and Hoop of Imprisonment are rather handy for me at this stage, and are also magic artifacts which I’m lacking, so I cannot sell them too.”

It was a pity, however, that the Dylan Gardens was destroyed by a self-destruct formation left by the great Magus Serholm.
“Perhaps, he did not wish for his inheritor to obtain too many items, for fear of losing the will for improvement!” Leylin surmised.

Родниковая вода собиралась под ней, формируя небольшой водоём. Свет отражался от разноцветная гальки и рыбы в водоёме.
Рядом с водоёмом находился небольшой сад. В саду находились разноцветные цветы неизвестных названии. Различные запахи смешались воедино, но они не казались беспорядочными; все вместе они формировали уникальный аромат заставлявший чувствовать себя обновлённым.
Лейлин неспешна прогулялся по саду перед возвращением в особняк.
Это был новый особняк, арендованный им на год, по адресу Город Полярной Ночи, Зона 3, Улица Большого Белого кита #56.
Для каждой из трёх зон города были строго регулированные правила.
Зоны выше третьей были зарезервированы только для официальных Магов и торговли, с исключением лишь для специальной прислуги обладавшей разрешением на проход.
Особняк занимал огромную площадь, и обладал сильной магической защитой. Согласно Лейлину, послушник 3 уровня, или даже официальный Маг, не имели бы шансов проникнуть в него. Им пришлось бы приложить изрядные усилия чтобы уничтожить это место.
Но всё же, Лейлин всё ещё желал добавить в это место некоторые модификации и большее количество защитных заклинаний.
Относительно тех заклинаний что уже были в Городе Полярной Ночи, Лейлин до конца не доверял им.
В зоне вокруг особняка Лейлина, находились другие Маги. Ранее, один красно-волосый старик даже помахал ему рукой в знак приветствия. Он показался Лейлину дружелюбным.

Послышался звук медного ключа, заступающего в замок, а за ним скрип открывающейся двери.
Сложив руки за спину, Лейлин неспешно прогуливался по особняку.
Особняк состоял из 3 этажей и подвального помещения.
Аппараты в лаборатории были обновлёнными, также как мебель и другие вещи, позволяя Лейлину почувствовать, что деньги были потрачены им не зря.
Спальня находилась на 3 этаже и даже имела открытый балкон.
Лейлин стоял на балконе, и наблюдал за далёким пейзажем.
Солнце садилось; тёмный занавес ночи постепенно окутывал окрестности.
*Бзз! Бзз! Бзз!*
На обочине дороги, один фонарь за другим загорался, в дали.
Маленькие пятна света постепенно образовывали один большой светлый (яркий) узор.
Яркий – но не ослепляющий – свет заполнил весь Город Полярной Ночи.
«Не удивительно что город Тельжойс также называют Городом Полярной Ночи!» воскликнул Лейлин.
Хотя он и привык к такой обстановке в своей прошлой жизни, в мире Магов всё было иначе. Для поддержки такого количества света требовалось огромная доля энергии, и скорее всего бесконечная (нескончаемая) геотермальная-энергия вулкана едва ли могла обеспечить нужды города.
*Динг!*
Что-то вроде лампы накаливания осветило комнату Лейлина.
«Вся эта энергия, эта невыносимая роскошь, обеспечивается коммунальным центром бесплатно!»
Лейлин покачал головой и скомандовал «ИИ чип, просканируй весь особняк, а также попробуй модифицировать оборонительные заклинания».
Следуя команде Лейлина, пятно яркого и сверкающего синего света загорелось в его глазах.
[Бип! Общая планировка особняка просканирована, не выявлено никаких отслеживающих заклинаний!]
Пришёл, спустя некоторое время, ответ от ИИ чипа.

С уверенной ухмылкой на лице, Лейлин достал несколько материалов из своей сумки, необходимые для изменения заклинаний в особняке.
К тому времени как Лейлин окончил свою работу, была уже полночь.
Затем Лейлин установил предупреждающее заклинание у своей спальни, и раскинулся на своей мягкой кровати.
Постоянные усилия по предотвращению покушений со стороны семьи Лилитейл морально измотали Лейлина.
Теперь, когда он наконец достиг место своего назначения, даже семья Лилитейл не смогла бы причинить ему вреда пока он находился в Городе Полярной Ночи. Лейлин чувствовал себя так, как будто гора была снята с его плеч, что позволило ему расслабиться.

Несмотря на то что это была подделка, это всё же был артефакт среднего класса. Если бы Лейлин вовремя не активировал Кулон Падших Звёзд, он мог бы и не избежать пленения этим артефактом.
Согласно ИИ, на артефакте не было никаких ловушек, и Лейлин решил использовать его в собственных целях. Лейлин в дальнейшем планировал изменить его, или же просто продать.
С тех пор как Лейлин продвинулся в силе, его ИИ также сильно улучшился.
Множество вещей, которые он не смог бы заметить ранее, будучи послушником, теперь предстали перед ним.
Старейшина семь Лилитейл, встреченный им ранее, был всего лишь Магом 1 ранга, и он не мог ничего скрыть от Лейлина.

Прямо сейчас Лейлин был всеголищь Чернокнижником 1 ранга, что же касается его родословной, она вполне могла бы превысить родословную молодого Великого Змея Кемойн. Он ежедневно чувствовал, как родословная влияет на его тело. Согласно расчётам Лейлина, приближался второй этап перехода, с тех пор как он получил свою родословную.
Так что можно сказать что эти два аспекта пока весьма удовлетворяли Лейлина. Единственное что замедляло дальнейший прогресс – преобразование элементных частиц.

Однако Лейлин был в списке разыскиваемых целой семьи Магов, и, естественно, он желал ускорить прогресс своего совершенствования.
Помимо того, что можно было медленно совершенствоваться со временем, также можно было использовать различные дорогие материалы для ускорения процесса преобразования элементных частиц.
Лейлин взглянул на материалы, лежащие на его кровати.
«Книга Великого Змея не будет продана! Кулон Падших Звёзд и Обруч Заключения могут мне ещё пригодится, да и к тому же они являются магическими артефактами в коих я испытываю недостаток, поэтому они тоже не для продажи.»
«Единственное что осталось – это растения и раннее накопленные магические кристаллы!»
Лейлин был немного расстроен.
Эти предметы могли быть обменены лишь на некоторые из необходимых ему ресурсов. Его нынешнее положение было сродни попытке потушить пожар стаканом воды.
Прямо сейчас он вспоминал о Садах Дилана.

Source text - English Chapter 1 --- Bai Xiaochun.
Mt. Maor was located in the Donglin Mountain Range. At the foot of Mt. Maor, there was a small village, known for its simple and rustic country life. The people here mainly relied on agriculture, as they were completely isolated from the rest of the world.
It was early in the morning. At the entrance of the village, all the villagers had gathered. They seemed to be sending off a boy, who was maybe fifteen or sixteen years old. The boy looked rather frail, but this was masked by his gentle demeanor. He was dressed in common blue robes that had faded from overwashing, but these robes, when coupled with his well-kept appearance, made him look smart and spirited.
The boy’s name was Bai Xiaochun.
“Family and friends, I will soon leave on my journey to cultivate immortality, but I really can’t bear to part with all of you.” The boy’s face was filled with reluctance, as his polite speech left people with an even deeper impression of his innocence.
Around him, the villagers looked anxiously at each other. None of them wanted to let this young man leave either.
“Xiaochun, your parents passed away too early... You’re really such a good child! Don’t you want to live an immortal life anymore? If you become an immortal, you’ll live for a very, very long time. Go! Every chick must leave their nest and fly away someday.” A gray-haired old man said, as he walked out of the crowd. When he called Xiaochun a good child, he briefly paused.
“Once you’re on the outside, no matter how difficult the circumstances are, you must persevere! Move on and hold your head high! Once you walk out of this village, you should never turn back, because your future lies in front of you.” The old man kindly shared his wisdom, as he clapped the boy on his shoulder.
“Immortality…” Bai Xiaochun straightened his shoulders, as determination started to appear in his eyes. Under the encouraging gazes of the old man and the surrounding villagers, he nodded his head resolutely. He took a last good look at all of his friends and family who surrounded him, before he turned and then resolutely strode out of his village.
As the boy’s figure disappeared into the distance, one by one, the villagers became wrought by emotions. Their sad expresssions were replaced by happy and joyful ones. Even the kind-hearted and gracious old man was trembling all over, as even tears started rolling down his wrinkled face.
“Bless the heavens! That bastard has finally… Finally left our village! Whoever told him that an immortal has been seen in this area, you’ve helped our village take a giant leap forward!
“That bastard finally left! My poor chickens… What a pity! just because he hated the crowing, that bastard used some sneaky method to instigate a group of children to eat every last chicken in this village.”
“Today is the start of a new year!” From the small village, the sounds of loud cheering emanated. Someone had even brought out their drums and happily drummed away.
Outside of the village walls, Bai Xiaochun had not yet walked very far, before he heard the sound of drums and wild cheers coming from the direction of the village.
A weird look crossed Bai Xiaochun’s face, as he came to a standstill and coughed. Then, accompanied by the sound of the drums in the distance, he walked along the mountain trail and entered Mt. Maor.
Although Mt. Maor couldn’t be considered tall, it was covered in a dense foliage. Even in the early morning sunlight, his eyes could only make out a mass of dark shadows amidst the heavy silence.
“According to Er Gou, when he was being chased here by a wild boar a few days ago, he saw an immortal fly past...” As he followed the winding trail, Bai Xiaochun’s heart thumped wildly. Out of the blue, a rustling noise came from the bushes beside him, as if a wild boar was hiding there. The noise was too sudden and Bai Xiaochun, who was already tightly wound with paranoia, instantly felt a chill run down his spine.
“W-Who the hell is over there?” Reaching into his bag with his right hand, Bai Xiaochun rapidly retrieved four axes and six wooden knives. However, these weapons still didn’t give him a secure feeling, so he also took out a small black incense stick from within his robes and held it tightly in his fist.
“Don’t come out! Don’t even think about coming out! I’ve got axes and wooden knives! The incense stick in my hand can even produce thunderbolts and summon immortals to help me. If you dare to come out, you are doomed to die!” Bai Xiaochun shouted with a shaky voice. Stumbling over his own feet, he gathered his weapons in his arms and scurried away along the mountain road. His weapons jingled loudly as, one by one, they clattered on the ground behind him.
Perhaps scared away by his words, the rustling noises soon stopped. No wild beast emerged from the foliage. Bai Xiaochun’s face had turned deathly pale. He wiped the perspiration from his brows and thought about giving up on the rest of his climb. But as he looked at the incense stick that his parents had entrusted to him before they had died, he felt conflicted. It was rumoured, that once upon a time, his ancestors had rescued a fallen immortal by chance. Before departing, the immortal had left them this incense stick in return for their goodwill and promised them that he’d accept one of Bai’s descendants as his disciple. As long as the incense stick was lit, the immortal would arrive.
Up untill now, Bai Xiaochun had lit the incense stick over ten times, but the immortal had never shown up. He had begun to wonder whether the immortal would really come, or if he had long forgotten his promise. This time, the reason he had finally made his mind up to light the stick, even though there was not much incense left, was because he had been told that some villagers had witnessed an immortal flying through the sky several days ago.
That was the reason why he had come here. He believed, that if he was closer to the immortal, then perhaps the immortal would be able to sense him.
Bai Xiaochun hesitated briefly, before he grit his teeth. He was determined to keep climbing up the mountain. Fortunately, the mountain was not very high and it wasn’t long before he arrived at the top of Mt. Maor, panting heavily. Standing there, he emotionally gazed at the village beneath him, before looking back at the black fingernail-sized piece of incense stick in the center of his palm. The incense stick had been lit many times and only a small bit remained.
“It’s been three years. My parents, please endow me with your blessings! This time, it has to work!” Bai Xiaochun took a deep breath and carefully lit the last piece of the incense stick. Immediately, a violent gale rose around him. In the blink of an eye, black clouds gathered above his head and streaks of lightning flashed across the sky. The loud explosions of thunder even threatened to deafen him.
“What a noise! What power!” Bao Xiaochun’s entire body trembled, as he felt like he would be struck dead by the lightning at any moment. He couldn’t help but want to extinguish the incense with his saliva, but with difficulty, he managed to stifle his desire.
“In the past three years, I have lit this incense stick for a total of twelve times. This is the thirteenth time. This time, I must hold on. Xiaochun isn’t scared and won’t be killed by a thunderbolt… Probably... ” Bai Xiaochun recalled all that had happened in the past three years. With the exception of this time, he had lit the incense twelve times already. But even though each time had been accompanied by such frightening thunder and lightning, not once had the immortal appeared in front of him. He, who was terrified of death, had always put out the incense stick with his saliva right away. Whenever he thought about his experience over the past three years, the middle-aged man felt rather annoyed. Three years ago, he had sensed the smell of the incense which he had gifted to others back when he was still trapped in the spirit form. He remembered the kindness that he had been shown when he was in the mortal world.
So he had flown over immediately, looking for the person who lit the incense stick. According to his calculations, he would’ve reached his destination very quickly. But unexpectedly, the moment he began to follow the smell, it disappeared immediately without a trace. If it happened only once, he’d be fine with it. But over the past three years, this had happened a grand total of twelve times.
Every time, he was interrupted in the midst of his hopeful search and had to return empty-handed. This had troubled him for three years already…
So this time, when he finally saw Mt. Maor and Bai Xiaochun, who was standing on its peak, from a distance, he was extremely irritated. He quickly flew to the mountain top. With a wave of his hands, what was left of the stick of incense was snuffed out.
Instantly, the thunder stopped. Bai Xiaochun was briefly stunned, before he raised his head and noticed the middle-aged man standing beside him.
“...Immortal?” Bai Xiaochun opened his mouth cautiously. He was not quite certain of the man’s identity and he even secretly hid an axe behind his back.
“I am Li Qinghou. Are you a descendant of the Bai family?” The middle-aged immortal’s eyes flashed like lightning. Disregarding the axe behind Bai Xiaochun’s back, he looked the boy up and down with a measuring gaze. Li Qinghou’s anger abated when he saw the young man’s delicate features, which looked like his old friend’s. What was more, was that it seemed that he was also fairly intelligent.
“Yes, I’m the descendant of the Bai family, Bai Xiaochun.” Bai Xiaochun blinked, as he spoke softly. Although he was a little frightened, he still managed to straighten his back.
“So tell me, this stick of incense, why have you lit it non-stop for the past three years?” The middle-aged cultivator’s tone was bland, as he asked the one question that had kept him restless for the past three years.
When Bai Xiaochun heard this question, his mind raced furiously. He plastered on a mask of sadness as he gazed longingly at the remote village at the foot of the mountain.
“This humble descendant is a person who truly understands the value of relationships. I was unwilling to part with my dear villagers. Every time I lit the incense, they’d beg for me to stay. Just like today, you can even still hear that they’re devastated by my departure.”
The middle-aged immortal briefly stared at him. This reason, he had never considered it before. His temper calmed even further. Just from these words alone, it seemed that the character of this youth wasn’t all that bad.
But when his gaze fell on the village, he arbituarily used his senses to scan the small settlement. When he heard the sound of the villagers, who were beating their drums and cheering at the departure of ‘the bastard’, his expression turned ugly again, as he started to feel his head hurt. As he inspected the seemingly naive and obedient Bai Xiaochun, who looked like he couldn’t harm a fly, he instantly understood, that in reality, this youth was rotten from head to toe.
“Tell me the truth!” The middle-aged immortal glared at him and loudly roared.
These words made Bai Xiaochun almost faint from terror. “Don’t blame me! Blame your lousy incense stick! Every time I lit it, it would start thundering. I was almost killed by the lightning on multiple occasions. To have survived this for thirteen times, it’s already a small miracle!” Bai Xiaochun said pathetically.
The middle-aged immortal looked at Bai Xiaochun, not knowing what to say.
“...Since you’re afraid of some simple lightning, why did you still push yourself to light it so many times?” The middle-aged immortal slowly asked.
“I’m afraid of death! However, I heard you can become an immortal through training. I want to live forever!” Bai Xiaochun bitterly said.
The middle-aged immortal was at a loss for words yet again. But on second thought, perhaps this young man’s persistence was at least commendable. If he was trained harshly in a Sect, perhaps his attitude could be changed for the better.
After shortly deliberating, the middle-aged man spread his flowing sleeves out, which gathered around Bai Xiaochun. Soon after, they dissolved into a streak of rainbow light, that shot towards the horizon.
“Come with me.”
“To where? Oh god, it’s too high…” When Bai Xiaochun realised he was flying in the sky, his face instantly turned pale. When he looked down and saw the gaping abyss below, he was so frightened that he even threw his axe away and clung to the immortal’s thigh.
The middle-aged man looked down at his leg and impatiently spoke.
“To the Spirit River Sect!”

Гора-Худ лежала в Горной Цепи Иствуд, и у её подножья находилась причудливая маленькая деревушка. Жители той деревни жили в изоляции, и практически не имели никакой связи с внешним миром.
В настоящее время наступил рассвет, и жители деревни собрались у деревенских ворот чтобы проводить одного молодого человека по виду которому было 15-16 лет. Внешне он казался тощим и слабым, но имел здоровую, крепкую комплекцию тела и в общем привлекательный (чарующий) облик. Он носил обыкновенную зелёную робу, которая, по всей видимости, стиралась так много раз что уже почти износилась. Что-то в том во что он был одет, а также невинный взгляд его глаз, заставляли его казаться необычайно смышлёным.
Его звали Бай Сяочунь.
-Уважаемые Старейшины и односельчане - сказал он, - Я отправляюсь в путь, чтобы узнать о становлении Бессмертным. Я буду скучать по всем вам.
На лице молодого человека отразилось выражение лёгкой печали, как если бы он не мог перенести приближающегося расставания со своими односельчанами. Из-за этого он выглядел ещё очаровательней.
Окружающие жители деревни обменялись взглядами, беспомощно пожали плечами, а затем притворились, что им и вправду очень, очень жаль, что он уходит.
Из толпы вышел беловолосый старик и сказал, - Сяочунь, с тех пор как нас покинули твои отец и мать, ох как же давно это было, ты…ты был, эм – он сделал небольшую паузу – таким хорошим малым!!
Видя, что Сяочунь всё ещё не ушёл, он продолжил – Ты ведь всё ещё заинтересован в вечной жизни? Для этого тебе всего лишь необходимо стать Бессмертным и тогда ты будешь жить вечно! Бессмертие -это действительно очень, очень долго! Ну а теперь пришло время тебе покинуть нас. Даже молодой орёл должен учиться летать.
-Ни смотря ни на что, ты должен держаться и продолжать двигаться вперёд. Как только ты покинешь деревню, ты не сможешь вернуться, так как твой путь всегда будет вести вперёд, а не назад.
Старик дружелюбно похлопал Бай Сяочуна по плечу.
-Вечная жизнь… - пробормотал Бай Сяочунь. Дрожь прошла по его телу, а его глаза наполнились решимостью. Под обнадёживающими взглядами старика и всех жителей деревни, он серьёзно кивнул и оглядел всех собравшихся в последний раз. Наконец он развернулся и покинул деревню.
Как только он исчез вдали, восторг постепенно стал появляться на лицах жителей деревни. Их ранее полные скорби лица сменились на радостные, и старик с добрым лицом начал дрожать. По его лицу даже начали стекать слёзы.
-Небесная справедливость! Этот хорёк… наконец ушёл! Кто сказал ему что видел Бессмертного у деревни? Кто бы это ни был, я вознагражу этого человека от имени всей деревни!
Вскоре деревня наполнилась воплями радости. Некоторые жители даже достали гонги и барабаны и начали в них восторженно бить.
-Хорёк ушёл – кто-то сказал – но бедные мои курицы. Он так не любил, когда петухи кричали на рассвете, и каким-то образом подбил всех деревенских детишек съесть всех кур что были в деревне…
-Сегодня начало новой эпохи!
К этому времени, Бай Сяочунь был всё ещё близок к деревне, и даже мог слышать звуки гонгов и барабанов. Он даже улавливал некоторые восторженные крики.
Он остановился со странным выражением на лице. Мгновение спустя, он прочистил горло и продолжил свой путь. Сопровождаемый звуками празднества он шёл дальше к Горе-Худ.
Гора-Худ была не очень высокой, но зато она была покрыта густой растительностью. По этой причине, несмотря на то что светало, под деревьями было темно и тихо.
«Двуличный Пёс сказал мне, что, когда он, несколько дней назад, охотился на диких свиней, он видел Бессмертного летающего в округе…» Бай Сяочунь продолжал идти дальше, его сердце колотилось в груди. Внезапно он услышал какой-то звук, исходящий из ближайших кустов. Звук был похож на те, что обычно издавала дикая свинья, что сразу же заставило Бай Сяочуна запаниковать. Волосы на его затылке встали дыбом, но тем не менее он спросил
– Что это? Кто это там?
Он спешно достал из рюкзака четыре топора и шесть мачете, но даже они не прибавили ему уверенности, и поэтому он также достал кусочек чёрной благовонии из своей робы, который он крепко сжал в своей левой руке.
-Не выходи! – крикнул он, дрожа – Даже не думай выходить оттуда! У МЕНЯ есть топоры и мачете, а эта благовония может вызывать молнию с Небес, и даже призывать Бессмертных! Если ты посмеешь показаться, то считай, что ты ТРУП!
Наконец, он развернулся и побежал назад к горному пути, при этом пытаясь удержать всё своё оружие в руках. В конце концов можно было услышать, как топоры и мачете падали на землю направо и налево.
Впрочем, что бы там ни было в кустах оно перестало издавать какие-либо звуки, вероятно будучи напуганным им. Звуки прекратились и никакое дикое животное так и не выбежало из кустов. Стерев пот с лица, Бай Сяочунь поспешил к горе. К этому моменту его лицо побледнело, а он сам всерьёз задумывался над тем чтобы бросить эту безумную затею с походом на гору, но вскоре он вспомнил о благовонии которую ему передали его родители перед своей смертью. Предположительно, это был подарок от Бессмертного переданный им их предками, которые спасли этого Бессмертного. Перед своим уходом Бессмертный вручил им это благовоние в благодарность за их доброту. Также Бессмертный даже пообещал взять в ученики члена клана Бай. Он сказал, что достаточно только поджечь благовоние и он прибудет к ним.
Бай Сяочунь в последние несколько лет зажигал благовоние несколько раз, но ни один Бессмертный так и не появился. Теперь Бай Сяочунь сомневался в правдивости той истории с Бессмертным. Наконец, он решил подняться на гору. С одной стороны, благовоние уже почти полностью выгорело, но с другой стороны поблизости видели Бессмертного.
Вот таким вот образом он и оказался в данном положении. Он предполагал, что если ему удастся хоть как-то приблизится к Бессмертному, то Бессмертному будет легче почуять ароматическую палочку.

Он взглянул на деревню далеко внизу, и его лицо снова наполнилось различными эмоциями. Затем он посмотрел на оставшийся кусочек благовония размером с ноготь. Он, очевидно, неоднократно поджигался и уже почти выгорел.
-Прошло уже три года. Отец и мать благословите меня. В этот раз всё ДОЛЖНО сработать! – Бай Сяочунь глубоко вдохнул и осторожно поджёг оставшийся кусочек благовония. Тут же подул сильный ветер, и тучи заполонили небо. Ударила молния и раздался оглушительный звук грома.
Величественность всей сцены заставила Бай Сяочуна дрожать в страхе от того что он может быть убит молнией. Он уже хотел плюнуть на благовоние чтобы потушить его, но сдержался.
-Я поджигал её уже двенадцать раз за последние три года, а это уже тринадцатый раз. Я должен оставить его гореть. Давай же, Сяочунь! Молния не убьёт тебя, ну или скорее всего не убьёт…
Все те двенадцать раз что он поджигал благовоние, раздавались гром и молния, но Бессмертный так и не приходил. Каждый раз он пугался так сильно что плевал на благовоние чтобы потушить его. Ему даже показалось странным что благовоние данное Бессмертным могло быть потушено всего лишь какой-то слюной.
Бай Сяочунь сидел на вершине горы дрожа, пока вокруг него раздавался гром. Вдруг в дали появилась полоса света.
Это был мужчина средних лет, в богатой одежде. У него был необыкновенный облик, но всё же он выглядел каким-то уставшим и изношенным от долгой дороги. На самом деле, если к нему приглядеться, его глаза будто мерцали с каким-то истощением.
-Ну наконец я увидел того кретина что поджигал благовоние всё это время на протяжении трёх лет!
Как только этот мужчина задумывался о том, что он пережил за последние три года, он начинал раздражаться. Три года назад он почувствовал лекарственную ауру от благовония, которое он отдал ещё, будучи на стадии Конденсации ЦИ. Это тут же напомнило ему о том долге ещё когда он был смертным.
Когда он впервые полетел к месту зажжения благовония, он думал, что это будет плёвым делом, всего лишь нужно было слетать туда и обратно. Он даже не предполагал, что до того, как он найдет благовоние, его аура исчезнет, прерывая связь ауры с ним. Если бы это произошло только один раз, не было бы никак проблем, но такое на протяжении трёх лет происходило более десяти раз.
Снова и снова его поиск прерывался, и он постоянно покидал свою секту и возвращался обратно. Туда-сюда, туда-сюда. Это было какой-то пыткой.
Приближаясь к Горе-Худ, он заметил Бай Сяочуна. Переполненный разочарованием, мужчина приземлился на вершину горы и взмахом руки потушил истлевающее благовоние.
Гром прекратился, и шокированный Бай Сяочунь взглянул на мужчину.
-Вы Бессмертный? –Осторожно спросил Бай Сяочунь. Он всё ещё не был уверен в происходящем, а потому одной из рук потянулся за топором на спине.
-Ты можешь звать меня Ли Цинхоу. Ты из клана Бай? –Глаза средневозрастного культиватора сияли словно молнии, пока он осматривал Бай Сяочуна, при этом игнорируя топор за его спиной. Бай Сяочунь показался ему деликатным, и почти симпатичным, а также напомнил ему одного старого друга. Кроме того, его скрытый талант представлялся приемлемым. Гнев Ли Цинхоу начал стихать.
Бай Сяочунь несколько раз моргнул. Несмотря на то что он всё ещё был немного напуган, он сел прямо и тихо сказал
–Этот младший определённо из клана Бай. Я Бай Сяочунь.

-Этот младший очень сентиментальная и добродетельная персона –сказал он –Я просто не мог перенести расставание со своими односельчанами. Каждый раз как я поджигал благовоние, меня переполняло чувство скорби. Даже мысль о том, чтобы бросить их приносила мне страдания.
Ли Цинхой был шокирован. Он даже не принимал в расчёт такую ситуацию, и поэтому гнев в его сердце поубавился ещё больше. Всего лишь со слов этого молодого человека, он понял каким же хорошим материалом он являлся.

Ли Цинхой молча посмотрел на Бай Сяочуна.
-Если ты был так напуган, то зачем ты поджигал его более десяти раз?! – Спросил он.
-Да потому что я боюсь умереть! – С возмущением ответил Бай Сяочунь – Разве суть культивации Бессмертного не в том, чтобы жить вечно? Я, кстати говоря, хочу жить вечно!
Ли Цинхой был снова поражён. Тем не менее, он нашёл желание мальца жить вечно – похвальным, и осознал, что его личность может измениться в лучшую сторону после жёстких тренировок в секте.
Послу секундного раздумья, он взмахнул рукавом, захватил Бай Сяочуна в луч света который улетал в даль.
-Хорошо, ты идёшь со мной, – сказал он.
-Куда мы отправляемся? -спросил Бай Сяочунь, неожиданно осознав, что они летели. –Ах! Мы так высоко…
Земля была далеко, далеко внизу, что заставило его лицо побледнеть. Он тут же бросил свой топор и схватился за ногу Бессмертного.

Помимо тяжеловооруженных сил, развернутых Герцогством, необходимо иметь доступ к дешевым и многочисленным патрульным силам. В них набирают простых крестьян, бывших преступников и осужденных. Колониальное ополчение мечников быстро обучают профессионалы из армии и несколько местных инструкторов, обладающих некоторой степенью власти. Эти простые ополченцы обычно происходят с материка, под покровительством королевства Миртана, а некоторые из них прибыли непосредственно с Южных островов. Колониальное ополчение копейщиков прекрасно поддерживает порядок на улицах городов Торниары, а во время военных кампаний составляют основную часть пехотного корпуса, также поддерживаемую пешими рыцарями и паладинами Герцогства. Колониальное ополчение копейщиков вооружено простыми двуручными копьями, самого разного качества. Однако, это снаряжение, является эффективным для убийства всадников, или может вызвать кровотечение как у лошадей, так и у кавалеристов. Таких ополченцев можно встретить по всей территории Торниары, от штаб-квартиры недалеко от Бастилии, до самых границ Герцогства, где бы ни проводились экспедиции.

{Orc_Boat} Орочья лодка {Orc_Boat_descr} У простых кораблей Орков практически нет оружия. Они используются племенами для транспортировки войск и припасов.

{Orc_Vessel} Орочье судно {Orc_Vessel_descr} Орки Судно немного больше, чем простые лодки, однако, они не совсем подходят для боя. Эти суда лучше всего подходят для наблюдения за береговыми линиями, защиты главных городов у моря и предотвращения вторжений более легких судов.

{Undead_magicians} Маги нежити (3 круга) {Undead_magicians_descr} Легионы нежити не славятся своим использованием магии, так как мёртвые войны предпочитают холодное оружие и жестокие бои. Тем не менее, среди царства усопших, можно найти и нежить, изучающую и практикующую искусство темной магии. Хотя они и не так сильны, как Высшие Маги трех богов, маги нежити - серьёзный противник, которого стоит опасаться. Они служат своему царству, но некоторые из них попали под пагубное влияние ужасного Равена из Старого лагеря. После падения Барьера магия была полностью запрещена в лагерях осужденных, сначала волей Гомеза, а затем и его преемниками. Тем не менее, Равен заключил новый темный союз с Белиаром, и теперь мёртвые мастера магии и их скелетные легионы готовы служить своему новому человеческому лорду и его последователям.

Они единственные, кому разрешено регистрировать язык орков в документах, и самые влиятельные фигуры среди общества орков. Эти орки работают в тандеме с кастой воинов. Но если страной управляет король, они играют роль скрытых магов, хотя каждое слово, выраженное Орком-Шаманом в обществе, равнозначно закону. И последнее, но не менее важное: они не пощадят тех, кто не согласен с их мнением, Шаманы могут немедленно превратить их в кучку пепла. Магия дает им силу и ловкость, и благодаря этому они намного превосходят самых опытных солдат, но они никогда не сражаются в ближнем бою, предпочитая опустошать вражеские линии издалека. Учитывая строгий отбор в касту Шаманов, этих чародеев всегда мало, но даже один такой отряд может изменить исход битвы.
