Affirmations
Affirmations are statements that you can repeat silently or out loud to yourself, over and over, until the constant repetition becomes meaningless and you are aware only of the sound of the affirmation in your head. Although repeating statements in this way may seem pointless at first, try to persevere because they are a powerful tool and can have some very positive effects on your mind and overall well-being.
Affirmations in meditation
In meditation, affirmations are often used for a different purpose, namely to stop the endless chatter of the brain. If, when you are meditating, you find it hard to stop your mind from distracting you, repeating a simple affirmation blocks the communication channel so that the mind cannot feed you other thoughts. It works in the same way as counting the breaths in that it enables you to block out distractions by concentrating on something else. Some people find affirmations easier to do than counting the breaths.
During meditation, we usually repeat affirmations while we are focusing on something else, such as sensations. Since the purpose of the affirmation is to block out invading thoughts, the meaning of the affirmation is unimportant, but it does no harm to choose to say something positive so that, after constant repetition, the idea will take root in the subconscious mind. However, remember that the main aim here is to counteract the chattering of the brain, not to feed it ideas that may distract you further.

It was confirmed in June 2005 that a scrubbing facility at the Borregaard factory in Sarpsborg, Norway was very likely the source of the Legionella outbreak which affected the Sarpsborg area in May, unfortunately claiming the lives of 10 people and leaving over 40 people ill.
Orkla will include a brief statement in its 2005 Annual Report about the incident and the measures which have been taken to ensure that similar problems cannot arise in other facilities. We want to use this memo partly to inform people about the health risks which may be involved when Legionella bacteria are present in factories and other premises, as well as to chart the location of facilities which may be a source of aerosols contaminated with Legionella bacteria.
Please make sure that this memo is sent as soon as possible to the managers of the production units within the factory you are responsible for, making sure that forms are completed and returned by 9 December 2005 at the latest (see address below).

We have 3 buildings in Willesden Green, and your accommodation will be allocated on arrival. We offer a free pick up from Willesden Green Tube Station (Jubilee Line - Silver colour on the map)) during our office hours. You are welcome to call on 0208 459 6203 on day of arrival for your property address, otherwise simply call us when you get to the Underground Station (Willesden Green) and we will pick you up with all your luggage.
If you are arriving after our office closed, we would be happy to arrange a late check in for you: We charge a £25 fee for this service:
Late check in procedure: We leave the keys for your apartment out for you and provide you with the full address BY EMAIL.
You will need to pay for the total rent plus the security deposit of £50 plus the late check in change of £25 in advance by Credit Card.

Posiadamy 3 budynki w Willesden Green, przy czym miejsce noclegu zostanie przydzielone w chwili przybycia. Naszych gości odbieramy za darmo ze stacji metra Willesden Green (linia Jubilee Line, zaznaczona na mapie srebrnym kolorem) podczas naszych godzin urzędowania. Celem sprawdzenia miejsca noclegu zachęcamy do telefonicznego skontaktowania się z nami pod numerem telefonu 0208 459 6203 w dzień przybycia, lub też po prostu zadzwonienia do nas już ze stacji metra (Willesden Green) – wówczas możemy odebrać Cię razem z całym Twoim bagażem.

KEEPING THOSE VITAMINS IN
Buying fresh produce is one way to ensure you're getting great nutrition. But keeping those nutrients in the produce once you've brought it home is another. Bear these tips in mind:
■ Use ripe produce as soon as possible after purchasing, or refrigerate quickly. Fresh fruit makes a pretty centerpiece, but being on display for days robs those pears, grapes, and apples of their natural nutrients. (You can ripen fruit on your table, though.) Keep an eye on your crisper drawer so you won't lose track of produce before it loses many of its vitamins and minerals.
■ When you're prewashing and cutting up fruit and veggies for easy snacking, refrig¬erate them as soon as possible to reduce the subtraction of nutrients and the multiplication of germs. And don't store in water (the water will end up with all the vitamins). See facing page for lettuce storing tips.
■ Keep beverage containers closed. Orange juice loses vitamin C when exposed to air. Milk loses nutrients when exposed to light.
■ When cooking vegetables, remember that less is more. That means less water (opt for steaming or over boiling, and avoid doing cold-water plunges) and less cooking time, (stop when they're crisp-tender). Vegetables that have lost their color (as when a green bean or carrot goes from bright to dull) have probably also parted with many of their vitamins. And stop in the name of nutrients before you dump that cooking water; instead, refrigerate to use it in broths, soups, or sauces.

Kupowanie świeżych produktów to jeden sposób na to, by miały one dużą wartość odżywczą. Ale sprawienie, by przyniesione do domu warzywa i owoce wartość tę zachowały, to sprawa druga. O czym więc musisz pamiętać? Oto przykazania:
■ Zużyj surowe warzywa i owoce jak najszybciej po ich kupieniu lub od razu wstaw je do lodówki. Choć świeże owoce są bardzo dekoracyjne, jednak gdy gruszki, winogrona czy jabłka poleżą poza chłodziarką przez kilka dni, stracą swoje naturalne składniki (można jednak wykładać owoce na stół, by dojrzały). Zaglądaj do szuflady lodówki ze świeżymi jędrnymi produktami, aby nie stracić ich z oczu zanim one stracą wiele ze swych witamin i składników mineralnych!
■ Po wstępnym umyciu i pokrojeniu owoców oraz warzyw na szybkie przekąski, włóż je zaraz do lodówki, żeby nie traciły wartości odżywczej i żeby nie rozmnażały się na nich zarazki. Nie przechowuj ich w wodzie, bo to do niej trafią ostatecznie wszystkie witaminy. Na sąsiedniej stronie znajdziesz porady, jak przechowywać sałatę.
■ Napoje przechowuj w zamkniętych pojemnikach, gdyż sok pomarańczowy traci witaminę C pod wpływem powietrza, a mleko traci znajdujące się w nim składniki pod wpływem światła.
■ Gdy gotujesz warzywa, pamiętaj, że im mniej, tym lepiej. Mówiąc „mniej” mamy na myśli zarówno mniej wody (lepiej gotować warzywa na parze niż zanurzone w wodzie, nie należy też przetrzymywać warzyw w zimnej wodzie), jak i mniej czasu gotowania (należy przerwać proces gotowania, gdy warzywa są już miękkie, ale jeszcze kruche). Warzywa, które straciły kolor (wyblakła fasolka szparagowa lub marchewka), prawdopodobnie również pożegnały się z wieloma witaminami. Wreszcie, z uwagi na liczne składniki, nie wylewaj wody po gotowaniu warzyw – przechowaj ją w lodówce i zużyj do bulionów, zup oraz sosów.
