Bio

Professional Profile

I live bilingually, able to communicate with equal facility in English and Irish. My formal education in languages is an honours degree in French & Italian (with subsidiary German & Irish) from the National University of Ireland, Galway. I completed the Gaelchultúr Intensive Course in Irish Translation in December 2016 and achieved 94% in the final exam. I have an NCVA Certificate - Level 2 in Information Technology from the Galway Technical Institute, and a Certificate in Practical Journalistic Writing Skills from the Irish Academy of Public Relations. I completed and passed with distinction all ECDL modules (IT).

Having travelled and worked extensively throughout Europe, I also enjoy a good working knowledge of Spanish, German & Greek. My professional experience to date has been varied, including language teaching in Milan and a two-year period as manager of a busy restaurant on the Greek Island of Crete. Since 2004 I have worked as a Multilingual Customer Service Advisor at Galway City Council. As part of my job I translate correspondence submitted in Irish, French and Italian.

I worked for two years (2002-2004) as Public Relations Officer with Conradh na Gaeilge, 45 Dominick Street, Galway. I was required to write and submit press releases and articles to local and national newspapers, radio stations and TV channels through the medium of Irish. I also translated documents from English to Irish and vice versa for customers and local businesses who wished to conduct their business bilingually.

For the past fourteen years, translation has been a significant component of my working life. My highest level of confidence is with translation between French, Italian, English and Irish. I work mainly on EU texts.

Próifíl Ghairmiúil

Tá Bríd Áine nic Aodha ag obair mar aistritheoir Béarla>Gaeilge le 14 bhliain anuas. Tá sí ag maireachtáil go dátheangach, in ann cumarsáid a dhéanamh mar an gcéanna i mBéarla agus i nGaeilge. Is é a hoideachas foirmiúil i dteangacha ná Céim BA (Onóracha) sa Fhraincis, Iodáilis Ghearmáinis & Ghaeilge ó Ollscoil Náisiúnta na hÉireann, Gaillimh. Chríochnaigh sí an Dhianchúrsa Gaelchultúr in Aistriúchán Gaeilge i mí na Nollag 2016 agus bhain sí 94% amach sa scrúdú deiridh. Tá Teastas NCVA Leibhéal 2 aici i dTeicneolaíocht Faisnéise ó Institiúid Theicniúil na Gaillimhe, agus Teastas i Scileanna Scríbhneoireachta Iriseoireachta Praiticiúla ó Acadamh Caidrimh Phoiblí na hÉireann i mBaile Átha Cliath. Fuair sí pas le gradam sa teastas ECDL (TF).

Tar éis taisteal agus obair a dhéanamh go forleathan ar fud na hEorpa, tá buneolas maith oibre aici ar an Spáinnis, an Ghearmáinis agus an Ghréigis freisin. Tá éagsúlacht ag baint lena taithí ghairmiúil go dtí seo, lena n-áirítear mar mhúinteoir teanga i Milan na hIodáile agus tréimhse dhá bhliain mar bhainisteoir ar bhialann gnóthach ar Oileán Chréit na Gréige. Ó 2004-2019 d’oibrigh sí mar Chomhairleoir Ilteangach um Sheirbhís do Chustaiméirí ag Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe. Is é an cúram a bhí uirthi ná comhfhreagras a chuirtear isteach i nGaeilge, i bhFraincis agus in Iodáilis a aistriú go Bhéarla.

D’oibrigh sí ar feadh dhá bhliain (2002-2004) mar Oifigeach Caidrimh Phoiblí le Conradh na Gaeilge, Gaillimh. Rinne sí preaseisiúintí agus ailt a scríobh i nGaeilge agus iad a chur faoi bhráid nuachtáin áitiúla agus náisiúnta, stáisiúin raidió agus cainéil teilifíse. D’aistrigh sí cáipéisí ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge agus a mhalairt do chustaiméirí agus gnólachtaí áitiúla ar mhian leo a ngnó a dhéanamh ar bhonn dátheangach.

Le dhá bhliain déag anuas, bhain sí slí bheatha amach san aistriúcháin. Tá an leibhéal muiníne is airde aici san aistriúchán idir an Fhraincis, an Iodáilis, an Bhéarla agus an Ghaeilge. Faoi láthair díríonn sí ar an aistriúchán ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge, ag obair go príomha ar théacsanna AE.
