I am a computer engineer who entered the world of professional translation through the gates of software localization. I obtained my General Certificate of Education from the University of London and hold a B.Sc. of Computer Engineering from Ain Shams University at Cairo. For almost a decade, I worked closely with Apple Computer Inc. and other international IT organizations in the field of software localization, through which I discovered that I possess translation skills of reasonable quality. Following that, I sought to refine such skills by studying for and obtaining a translation certificate at the American University in Cairo, in addition to a BA of Arabic Linguistic Studies from Al-Azhar University. In 1996, I made a full switch in career to translation and interpretation services on freelance basis. Some of the highlights of my translation work are the Manual of Directives and Ministerial Decrees for the Central Bank of Kuwait, Kuwaiti Public Property Law, and selections of the American Open University curriculum books. I also participated in the localization of products from major IT vendors, e.g. Oracle, Intel, Great Plains, Siemens, Element K, SmartStreams Financials, HP, Nokia, Apple, etc., as well as localizing several websites. I also wrote a book titled ?Utilization of the Internet" in Arabic.
I have lived in the UK, and have worked in Saudi Arabia for several years. I also have extensive international business exposure through frequent business trips to the USA, most European countries, all GCC countries, etc.
The combination of engineer, translator, and two-decade computer power user, I am an expert user of Windows and all Office products as well as Trados Freelance, Catalyst, Transit, and Language Manager.
