Although my work is concentrated primarily on the banking and IT sectors and stock exchanges I have added the following sectors to my portfolio:
- Football
- Advertising
- Pharmaceuticals
- Media
- Tourist industry
- Automobile industry
- Telecommunications
Details of some of my most important areas of translation:
- Wide range of texts in the financial sector under time pressure, many of which have been published, e.g. press releases, corporate bond updates, corporate analyses in various branches of the industry (see above).
- Company overviews (up to 40 pages), interim reports of Internet companies and banks, new issue and offering prospectuses.
- Technical and functional manuals for several major projects at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, customer information bulletins.
- Other translations include a variety of contracts involving mergers and spin-offs, hospitality contracts, database field descriptions, websites, medical laboratory reports, advertising material, film dialogues and brochures of all kinds (e.g. travel brochures).
Born in England, raised in Germany and England I had the opportunity from an early age to live in and identify totally with two languages and cultures.
Experiencing two education systems was a great advantage and proved decisive in my later choice of career as translator.
After 4 years of professional experience as a full-time software programmer, focusing on the banking and stock exchange sector, for an IT consultant in Frankfurt am Main in Germany, I opted for self-employment.
I have been working as a free-lance translator since 1995 and in 1997 passed the Diploma in Translation (Dip. Trans) exam at the Institute of Linguists in London.
After working as a full-time translator and part-time interpreter with the Organising Committee of the 2006 FIFA World Cup until October 2006 I am now back to my old job as freelance translator, albeit it with a slightly stronger leaning to the world of football.
