Letter of recommendation from the editor of "Norske PC Gaming World", Thomas Lund (Aug 05):
Bjørnar has worked for us as a freelance translator since August 2003; first for GMN Group, and then for ScandiMedia DA after the takeover in September 2004. During this period, he has translated numerous computer articles from German to Norwegian, something which he is excellent at. His writings are both entertaining and comprehensive and he handles technical hardware terminology and everyday language with equal fluency. Moreover, Bjørnar always keeps deadlines, and is often willing to work extra hard in the hectic period before a magazine goes to print. With a negligible number of mistakes, he has up to this date translated more than 170 000 German words (appr. 500 A4-pages).

| Source text - English When my wife told me she was pregnant, I got that stomach-churning sensation that hits you on a plunging roller coaster. I was excited, yes, but... oh my God. Parenting was for, well, parents.
So here I stand, bug-eyed and sweating buckets like some poorly-drawn cartoon character, the question marks floating in the air around my head while I try to prepare myself for the complete care and responsibility of another living being besides my cat. I'm responsible for making sure this little human doesn't grow up and turn into a complete monster. If the child turns out a social moron-- my fault. If the babe can't find Luxembourg on the map, blame me for not providing a better education. They'll need therapy, and of course that will be on my head too. So many opportunities for wrong turns!
I remember the day my father sat me down and awkwardly told me about the birds and the bees; it was perhaps the most excruciating and embarrassing half hour of both our lives. I can't do that to another human being.
Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself here. I can do this, I say; I'll be a great father. My child will be reared a well-rounded, educated, upstanding citizen of the world, and he or she won't hate me.
And then I imagine the baby, still safe within the confines of my wife's belly, suddenly opening an alarmed eye as the thought enters his or her mind: "What if my dad just can't hack it?
| English to Norwegian: NY Times article about economics Detailed field: Economics | Source text - English Economy Grows Nearly 1% in Europe
With France and Germany leading the way, the economy in the 12 nations that use the Euro currency grew at its fastest quarterly rate since 2000, a development that is expected to fortify the resolve of the European Central Bank to raise interest rates again this year.
The gross domestic product of the nations grew 0.9 percent from April to June compared with the previous quarter, Eurostat, the statistics agency of the European Union, reported Monday. Growth has recently mostly reflected strong exports, but the latest figure received a lift from business investment and consumers whose reluctance to spend has been the hallmark of the slow recovery.
The German economy, where households have been the most tightfisted, also grew 0.9 percent.
“Domestic demand is doing its job, finally,” said Erik Nielsen, chief Europe economist with Goldman Sachs. “We finally have a little drive from something other than exports, which is good.”
The data broadly confirmed figures released by various countries over much of the last week, most recently France on Friday. Though overall growth is accelerating in the Euro region, it is uneven, with France growing at a rate of 1.1 percent to 1.2 percent in the quarter, and Italy lagging at 0.5 percent.
The precise details of the growth pattern are not yet available, but economists said that data on retail sales in Germany points toward strong consumption, as does a fall in unemployment. Business confidence surveys, though they have come off their peaks of earlier this year, are still in line with strong growth.
“The situation on the labor market has noticeably improved,” said Michael Glos, the German economics minister. “Therefore, the prospects for the year are exceptionally positive.”
The European Commission on Monday raised its estimate for growth in the third quarter to 0.5 percent to 0.9 percent, slightly higher than it projected in July.
But the commission cut its forecast to a range of 0.4 percent to 0.9 percent for the fourth quarter, a period when many economists said they expected the softening economy in the United States to drag on European growth. | Translation - Norwegian Nesten én prosent økonomisk vekst i Europa
