INSTALLATION AND START-UP

Your Turbo conveyor has been run prior to shipment to ensure proper operation. However, it is recommended that the following checks be made before start-up:

Conveyor Drive
• Check frame and belt for damage during shipment or storage.

• Locate conveyor in operating position.

• All drive elements (pulleys and sprockets) should be located close to their bearing supports. Each set of pulleys and sprockets should be carefully aligned to prevent excessive wear and noise.

• Drive chains and belts should be properly tensioned.

• Check speed reducer to see that oil is at proper level. If there is a shipping plug in gearbox vent, remove it.

De même, les tensions en Iraq (prises d’otages) et certaines mauvaises nouvelles de sociétés (Nortel, Unilever, Adecco) n’ont guère rassuré les intervenants. Comme attendu, les résultats de sociétés US sont dans leur ensemble excellents mais ne présentent pas de surprises particulières. A l’encontre de la tendance générale, mais en accord avec une hausse marquée du prix du pétrole, le secteur de l’énergie s’est particulièrement bien comporté.

2. Novartis : et maintenant Roche ?

La fusion entre Sanofi et Aventis n’aura pas fait beaucoup d’heureux. Ni les actionnaires d’Aventis, ni ceux de Sanofi ne sont sortis gagnants de ce drame politico-économique. Novartis, qui semblait être le grand perdant de ces négociations, a vu ses cours rapidement remonter avec un optimisme croissant par rapport à ses résultats du Q1 04 qui ont vu son chiffre d’affaires s’accroître de 16% (+11% pour le bénéfice opérationnel). Suite à ces événements, on parle à nouveau d’un rapprochement entre Roche et Novartis comme étant une finalité possible. Il faut cependant savoir que le pool d’actionnaires principaux de Roche est lié jusqu’en 2009, ce qui laisse de la marge pour toute spéculation éventuelle. D’ici là, Novartis aura passablement les bras liés.

3. Unilever : acheter plutôt Nestlé sur faiblesse

La société a annoncé des résultats Q1 décevants tant au niveau du chiffre d’affaires (+0.4%) que de la marge nette (+30bp). Le management n’arrive pas à compenser la pression sur les prix par la croissance provenant de l’innovation. Nestlé et Danone sont largement à préférer.

La Chine : chronique d’un ralentissement programmé

de croissance du PNB de 9.7% à 7%, il est obligé d’entreprendre des mesures musclées de réduction d’investissements fixes et d’arrêter de multiples projets en cours de réalisation (aciérie, aluminium et ciment). Comme mesure complémentaire, on parle même de hausse de taux, ce qui serait plutôt étonnant compte tenu du fait que les investissements sont sensibles indirectement au différentiel de taux avec le dollar US.
Le centre du problème provient des gouvernements locaux (provinces) : les investissements fixes (bâtiments, usines etc…) représentant environ la moitié de la consommation chinoise, sont gérés et contrôlés par des instances gouvernementales qui ne pensent, avant tout, qu’à leurs intérêts propres. La productivité et la viabilité des projets ne sont pas des facteurs déterminants pour leurs réalisations, mais bien plus le montant à court terme que peut ramener telle ou telle construction dans les caisses du gouvernement local (n’oublions pas que la Chine reste un Etat socialiste avec une économie de planification). De plus, ces institutions contrôlent les banques régionales qui financent ces projets (du reste, la corruption n’y est pas étrangère !) créant ainsi d’importants conflits d’intérêts : le système bancaire est mis en péril par l’accumulation de crédit douteux qui s’élèveraient à 45% du total des emprunts accordés (selon S&P). Le déséquilibre est également montré par les chiffres du Q1 2004 : si l’économie chinoise a progressé de 9.7% (taux annualisé), les crédits ont crû de plus de 21% pendant la même période ! Hormis les risques de collapse financier, le développement effréné que connaît la Chine actuellement peut rapidement générer des situations de surcapacité et ramener de la déflation.
Il est heureux que le gouvernement central ait pris conscience de cette précarité financière. La manière dont les mesures seront appliquées et leur efficacité restent par contre aléatoire. De même, les effets sur les économies asiatiques et occidentales sont difficiles à évaluer aujourd’hui. Mais il vaut mieux perdre un peu de croissance mondiale que de risquer une crise financière aux conséquences désastreuses comme en 1998 (crise des pays émergents).

El gobierno chino se ha convertido en la víctima de su propio éxito: para evitar el recalentamiento de su economía y controlar los índices de crecimiento de su PIB reduciéndolos de 9,7% a 7%, se ve obligado a emprender formidables medidas de reducción de inversiones fijas y suspender múltiples proyectos que estaban en fase de ejecución (siderurgia, aluminio y cemento). Como medida complementaria, se habla incluso de aumentar las tasas de interés, lo que resultaría bastante sorprendente teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que las inversiones son afectadas indirectamente por el diferencial de las tasas respecto al dólar estadounidense.
El núcleo del problema proviene de los gobiernos locales (provincias): las inversiones fijas (construcción, fábricas, etc.) que representan aproximadamente la mitad del consumo chino son administradas y controladas por entidades gubernamentales que sólo piensan, en primer lugar, en sus propios intereses. La productividad y la viabilidad de los proyectos no son los factores determinantes para su realización, sino más bien el dinero en efectivo a corto plazo que podría aportar esta o aquella construcción a las cajas del gobierno local (recordemos que China sigue siendo un estado socialista con una economía planificada). Además, estas instituciones controlan los bancos regionales que financian estos proyectos (¡sin olvidar que la corrupción también ocupa una buena plaza en China!), lo que genera considerables conflictos de intereses; el sistema bancario corre peligro por la acumulación de créditos dudosos que se elevarían al 45% del total de préstamos otorgados (según S&P). Las cifras del 1T de este año reflejan igualmente este desequilibrio: si la economía china ha progresado un 9,7% (tasa anualizada), ¡los créditos han aumentado más de 21% en ese mismo período! Aparte de los riesgos del colapso financiero, el desarrollo desenfrenado que se despliega hoy en día en China puede generar rápidamente situaciones de exceso de capacidad y traer consigo la deflación.
Debemos alegrarnos de que el gobierno central de China haya tomado conciencia de esta precariedad financiera. En cambio, la forma como se aplicarán las medidas y su eficacia siguen pareciendo aleatorias. Asimismo, es difícil evaluar actualmente los efectos que esto acarreará sobre las economías asiáticas y occidentales; pero conviene más perder un poco de crecimiento mundial que arriesgarse a una crisis financiera de consecuencias desastrosas como la vivida en 1998 (en la crisis de los países emergentes).

1987-2024: I started to translate when professional translators still used classical typewriters, and clients would come to my home office to pick up their translation and would often stay on for hours talking about the nature of the document they had just had translated and the reasons for which they had written it.

Thirty-seven years translating and proofreading documents to the tune of around one million words per year… and still counting at the rate of thousands of words day after day. Thus, I may claim that I earned well every inch of my language diplomas and my Bachelor of Arts degree in Germanic Philology (majoring in English) and French Philology studies at the Universidad de La Laguna in Spain from 1978 to 1984, as well as other high-level studies and diplomas in German, French, and English.

I translate from German, English and French into Spanish Spain as my native language, and also into neutral or LATAM Spanish.

Experience has taught me that translating should be the result of a reflection about the effects words will have on readers, capturing their attention through the natural flow of ideas and wise word choices and phrasing, to move them to keep reading and understand the reason the document was created and what it means to them in terms of action, reaction, knowledge gathering or useful information.

My translation services are aimed specifically at technical and manufacturing companies and private clients who wish to count on a translator with an extensive experience and a proven capacity for immediate response at affordable prices negotiated directly with the translator.
