About me
Thanks for dropping by. You are visitor number Dan_sProzProfileNot just a pretty phrase...Translator...Journalist...Adventure Travel Guide... Overseas Project Manager

I am a qualified translator (Institute of Linguists), working since 1992. I offer high quality and affordable translations from Russian and French into English, and a large number of other language combinations via my agency Libero Language Lab.

My main focus these days is football (soccer), which I also cover as a journalist, and which is Libero's area of expertise. However, I also have extensive experience in business, politics and human rights and still occasionally take on projects in these fields.

I offer a service that combines reasonable pricing and efficiency with the accuracy and fluency that can only be achieved by an experienced native speaker translator. Moreover, since I am a professional journalist as well as a translator, I can offer that extra little bit of polish and style that is so often lacking in translated texts.

Clients, past and present, include: the BBC World Service, The London School of Economics, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesboro football clubs, the Football Association of Ireland, Hamlyn Publishers, FourFourTwo Magazine, FIFA, The Guardian, The UK Foreign Office, The British Council, Marconi, Scottish Enterprise, The University of Birmingham, W.S. Atkins plc, The World Cancer Research Fund...

Translation agencies for whom I have undertaken regular work include: The Big Word, Transperfect, Xplanation, Translation World, Aplus Translations, Arts & Letters.

I graduated from Edinburgh University in 1992 with an MA (Hons) in Russian: First Class with Distinction. This included a year studying at Moscow Linguistics University and working as a translator/sub-editor at Interfax News Agency.

I subsequently obtained a professional diploma in translation from the UK's Institute of Linguists (1 distinction, 2 merits).

In addition to many long- and short-term interpreting and translation assignments for both French and Russian over the last 10 years, I have also undertaken a variety of other jobs, including:

1993-94 Lexicographer for Harper Collins on a new Russian-English Dictionary.

1995-96 Operations Manager for an international aid agency in Azerbaijan.

1996-99 Editor of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce Bulletin - a monthly magazine on business in Russia.

1997-99 Editor of Russian Customs News, a newsletter for blue chip companies focusing on trade and tariff regulations.

2000-2001 - Official translator for Sergei Rebrov, a Ukrainian footballer at Spurs Football Club.

Jan-Apr 2002 - Acting Country Director for Children's Aid Direct, Afghanistan

My freelance journalism has appeared regularly in The Times, The Guardian, The Sunday Mirror, The Daily Express, The Daily Telegraph, The Financial Times, Scotland on Sunday, The Sunday Times, The Daily Record, FourFourTwo, World Soccer, When Saturday Comes, uefa.com, soccernet.com among others.

I have also undertaken research work on Russia for Amnesty International and Medecins Sans Frontieres.

Away from translation, interpreting and journalism, I have worked in a variety of different fields that have broadened my professional, and life experience, including international aid work - in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Afghanistan - and adventure travel guiding for a company called Across the Divide Ltd. This work has taken me to countries on five continents: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, China, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Australia, Russia, Namibia and Morocco.
