About me

I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and aside from one stay in the USA for 5 years and another for one year, I have lived here for a total of 9 years. I am fluent in Portuguese and have a good knowledge of colloquialisms and slang, as well as general Portuguese for translating a variety of different types of documents. I worked for a number of different companies and individual clients, translating many different kinds of texts as well as doing proofreading, corrections and voiceovers.

Additionally, I have six years experience translating from European Portuguese.

Although I am not currently a CAT tool user, I have no problem with translating PDF files -- send them on!

I was the pop music critic for The Christian Science Monitor for 12 years and also worked at The Christian Science Center in Boston during the 1980s in the translation department, translating articles and letters from Portuguese and collaborating on religious radio programs. Having worked as a journalist, I am used to pressure and tight deadlines.

I am also a pianist, composer and arranger and have a 10-piece jazz/samba band in Rio.

Some projects I have done:

Tourism and hotels - CS Hotels, Portugal
FICA - The Algarve International Film Festival
HYDROWORLD Water Purification Systems

EN LA MIRA Magazine - Gun Control

FEB - Brazilian Spiritist Federation
The Messengers, proofed various books by Allan Kardec, including What is Spiritism, The Spirits' Book, The Mediums' Book, etc.

Pan American Games

Medical abstracts proofing for two research doctors in Rio de Janeiro
