“TRAFFICKING CHILDHOOD”
In Ghana, there are children who are sold by their own parents for less than 30 euros.
Trafficked at age 3 or 4, these children work 14 hours a day, seven days a week on Lake Volta, the largest artificial lake in the world.
Abandoned by those who should protect them, these children are held in captivity by the men who bought them.
They are exploited, maltreated and live on isolated islands where they can't escape. Some die by drowning, many don't know their names, and most not even their age. Terrorized, uprooted and with no memory, these children remain prisoners and are enslaved by the men they call “masters” and who, in exchange for this forced labour, give them only a plate of cassava flour per day.
A TVI news team crossed the country to denouce the situation and film the rescue of some of these children, spoke with the mothers who sold their children, and confronted the men who had enslaved them.
Child trafficking is not a children's game, it is a grownup people's business.
Unicef has calculated that more than a million children are trafficked every year in the world.
“Trafficking Childhood” is an informative special that gives a voice to children enslaved in the 21st century.
