The BD Luer-LokTM 1ml syringe has an outer diameter equal to a BD Luer-LokTM 3ml syringe. Syringe pumps with automatic syringe size detection will incorrectly detect this 1ml syringe as a 3ml syringe. This error will cause an under-infusion of medication by a factor of 70%.
In order to avoid an infusion/medication error, BD recommends that you contact the manufacturer of your syringe pump to determine if this error will occur, how to prevent it and if a revision in the programming or the software is available that will accommodate this syringe. Some manufacturers have made provisions for the BD Luer-LokTM 1ml syringe.
