Services
I am a British former medical student and Clinical Research Associate (CRA). I studied over 3 years of an undergraduate medical degree (BM BS) including one year clinical training at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Bristol. After deciding that a career in clinical medicine was not quite right for me, I took an undergraduate degree in physiology (BSc Hons) and worked for a period as a Clinical Research Associate where I was responsible for collating clinical data for a broad variety of clinical trials.
After pondering how best to combine my languages and my scientific background, I subsequently studied for a postgraduate diploma in translation and interpreting (PG Dip) at the University of Bath. After completing my post graduate studies I started translating professionally in 2000 and by 2005 had built up sufficient freelance work to become self employed full time.
I work from both French and Spanish into UK English and my undergraduate studies and subsequent work experience enables me to offer a high quality specialised translation and proof-reading/editing service working on a large variety of biomedical and pharmaceutical documentation (verbatim physician responses to pharmaceutical questionnaires, clinical reports, clinical trial protocols, medical research articles, etc).
Before starting each project, I carry out extensive research of the topic. The use of the latest computer-assisted translation (DejaVu X, SDL Trados 2007) and voice recognition (Dragon Naturally Speaking) tools allows me to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
In February 2006, I was pleased to be short listed to participate in the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Translators and Editors.
My work ethic
In an increasingly saturated and therefore more competitive market, quality will remain the watch word. I place great emphasis on quality rather than quantity and do not wish to put my reputation as a high quality translator/editor at stake as the trade off for an increase in work volume.
For this reason I strive to limit my daily output to 2500 words whilst always aiming to deliver work to clients within specified deadlines.
Tariffs
My work rates depend on whether I work for the end customer directly or for an intermediary who sells my work on for a profit but rates generally fall into the range 0.08-0.10 euros/source word.
