Debt Service Ratio (DSR) (tab 1)· The borrowing company and its owners may already have existing debt obligations when they apply for a BIL. · In such a scenario, the existing cash flows are currently being utilised to meet the obligations of existing borrowings. · We need to assess whether the borrower/owners have the capacity to repay the incremental obligations arising from the BIL.· These obligations could include interest payments on overdrafts, minimum monthly payments on credit cards, loan repayments on other facilities like auto loans, mortgages, etc. along with the incremental obligation for BIL with Standard Chartered.DSR Calculation (tab 2)Accordingly, if you have to calculate the DSR for a business consultancy, BC Co., the debt service ratio is the ratio of monthly debt payments to the net monthly income of BC Co. It is calculated as follows: § The lower the ratio, the better the capacity of the borrower to meet the obligation and also withstand any unforseen uncertainty of cash flows.· There is a maximum DSR specified in each country.
