What is your most important demand of a translator? That the translation is cheap? That it will be finished yesterday? That you are offered value for your money? That the translator has a thorough understanding of the source language (in my case, German) and that the translator appreciates the nuances of what you are saying? That it is put into proper English (British, in my case)? You may well answer "yes" to all of these, knowing in your heart of hearts that all you can possibly expect is a reasonable compromise. A British English native speaker, I was with British Railways for almost 30 years, mostly in international marketing, spending several years in Northern Germany as a Regional Sales Manager, freight and passenger traffic.
