Se trataba de una collección de 15 fascículos con espacio muy limitado de manera que la traducción no podía superar un volumen predifinido. Extracto del capítulo 'Su obra':
La personalidad de Richard Wagner –mistificador, megalómano, exaltado, inescrupuloso, racista– aún genera adhesiones y rechazos que, lamentablemente, a menudo empañan la valoración de su obra. Sin embargo, ésta, a pesar de él mismo, define su grandeza. Síntesis del teatro lírico y la tradición musical alemana, su producción representó un cambio revolucionario: por un lado, fusionó todos los temas y motivos del Romanticismo y, por otro, afirmó una nueva estética, que constituyó un punto de inflexión. Para algunos, simbolizó la culminación del Romanticismo; para otros, el detonante de las vanguardias musicales del siglo XX. Acaso su grandeza sea haber constituido un puente entre lo nuevo y lo viejo de su época. | Translation - German
Es handelte sich um einen Schuber mit 15 Sammelbänden mit extremer Platzbegrenzung, sodass die Übersetzung ein vordefiniertes Volumen nicht überschreiten durfte. Auszug aus dem Kapitel 'Sein Werk':
Die Persönlichkeit Wagners – skrupelloser Mensch, Blender, Megalomane, Egozentriker, Rassist – polarisiert bis heute und ruft Ablehnung oder Bewunderung hervor, was eine sachliche Wertschätzung erschwert. Wagners Bedeutung ergibt sich jedoch aus seinem Werk. Als Synthese des lyrischen Theaters mit der deutschen Musiktradition stellte sein Œuvre eine revolutionäre Neuerung dar: Einerseits schuf er eine Verschmelzung des Themen- und Motivkreises der Romantik, andererseits begründete er eine neue Ästhetik, die einen Wendepunkt bildete. Manche sahen darin den Höhepunkt der Romantik, andere den Auslöser für die musikalische Avantgarde des 20. Jh. Vielleicht ist Wagners Größe darin zu suchen, dass er eine Brücke zwischen Altem und Neuem schuf.
