What do I offer? 10+ years of experience as a full-time French to English translator, providing well-researched, well-written translations in international development, corporate communications and law. Some of my recent projects include initial and continuing funding requests for an international vaccination program, web copy for a crisis communications consulting firm, magazine articles for a major African development summit and quarterly and annual reports for a land tenure project in West Africa.
My passions include writing translations that people want to read, providing outstanding service and value to my clients, keeping my finger on the pulse of the translation industry and learning more about my areas of specialization through in-person seminars and online courses. I have a B.A. in French from Geneseo College and the University of Grenoble, France and an M.A. in French Literature from Boston College, where I was inducted into Pi Beta Phi, the national French honor society.
Since 2006, I have also worked as a translation trainer, author and teacher. My book, How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator, has become a go-to reference for beginning and experienced translators alike, with over 5,000 copies in print. I also teach a four-week online course, Getting Started as a Freelance Translator, which teaches new translators how to successfully launch and run a freelance business. Check my professional website TranslateWrite.com for more information about my book and class, as well as one-on-one coaching for freelance translators!
What do I not offer? If you're looking for a cheap, fast translator who never asks questions, I'm not the right fit for you. I charge real money for my services, but I also want every client to feel that they got excellent value for their money by hiring me. A new client recently commented that my rates were more than they had planned on spending, but that they would enthusiastically hire me again because my attention to detail saved them time and money--that's the kind of client relationship I'm looking for. Feel free to contact me to talk more about how we can work together on your next French to English project!
