The "external carotid artery" flows upward on the side of the head to branch into various structures in the neck, face, jaw, scalp, and base of the skull. The main vessels that originate from this artery are: (1) the "superior thyroid artery" to the hyoid bone, larynx, and thyroid gland; (2) the "lingual artery" to the tongue, muscles of the tongue, and salivary glands below the tongue; (3) the "facial artery" to the pharynx (throat), palate, chin, lips, and nose; (4) the "occipital artery" to the scalp on the back of the skull and various muscles in the neck; and (5) the "posterior auricular artery" to the ear and scalp over the ear. Arteria/Vena Carótida Externa
La “arteria carótida externa” se dirige hacia arriba en el lado de la cara para ramificarse en varias estructuras en el cuello, cara, mandíbula, cuero cabelludo y base del cráneo. Los vasos principales que se originan de esta arteria son: (1) la “arteria tiroidea superior” para el hueso hioides, laringe y glándula tiroides; (2) la “arteria lingual” para la lengua, músculos de la lengua y glándulas salivales debajo de la lengua; (3) la “arteria facial” para la faringe (garganta), paladar, mentón, labios y nariz; (4) la “arteria occipital” para el cuero cabelludo en la parte posterior del cráneo y varios músculos del cuello; y (5) la “arteria auricular posterior” para el oído y cuero cabelludo alrededor del oído.
