Chrysler calls it a "Cruiser" but it looks like a custom delivery truck from the 1930's or 1940's, and PT stands for Personal Transportation. That's what it's all about - a cool-looking car that carries lots of people and their "stuff". Калашников М.Т. вошел во всемирную историю развития автоматического стрелкового оружия, как конструктор-создатель лучшего в мире автомата АК и других образцов оружия, состоящих на вооружении Армий многих государств. Полувековое состояние оружия системы Калашникова и на вооружении Российской Армии, и зарубежных вооруженных сил является убедительным свидетельством его конструктивного совершенства.
Калашников М.Т. родился 10 ноября 1919 года в селе Курья Алтайского края в многодетной крестьянской семье Тимофея Александровича и Александры Фроловны Калашниковых. Трудолюбивые и старательные родители приучали и привлекали своих детей к крестьянскому труду с раннего детства. Не было исключения и для одного из младших Миши. В дошкольные годы ему поручалось пасти домашний скот и птицу, а в школьные годы - помогать на полевых работах.
Осенью 1938 года Михаила Калашникова призывают в Рабоче-крестьянскую Красную Армию (РККА). Срочную службу он проходил в Киевском Особом военном округе (КОВО). Прошел курс обучения младших командиров в дивизионной школе и, получив специальность механика-водителя танка, продолжил службу в танковом полку в городе Стрый. Здесь увлекся рационализаторской и изобретательской работой. В сохранившейся газете "Красная Армия" (орган КОВО) от 19 января 1941 года опубликован отчет о проведении окружной конференции армейских рационализаторов и изобретателей, в котором с положительным отзывом отмечается изобретение курсантом танковой школы Калашниковым Михаилом комбинированного счетчика моторесурса танка. В этой же газете есть и статья самого автора с описанием устройства и действия прибора. Из статьи явствует, что прибор этот довольно непростой и в то же время имеющий важное предназначение. За это изобретение Калашников получил свою первую награду - именные часы от командующего КОВО генерала армии Жукова Г.К., будучи представлен ему лично. Это изобретение и еще одно - регистратор количества выстрелов из танковой пушки - стали как бы началом конструкторского пути двадцатилетнего сержанта Калашникова.

Mikhail T. Kalashnikov has gone down in the history of automatic small arms as the creator of the world's best assault rifle (Avtomat) AK-47 and an array of other models of automatic small arms. The fact that the small arms designed by M.T. Kalashnikov have been adopted by the Russian army and the armies of countless other Nations for more than half a century provides persuasive testimony to their innovative design features.
Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov was born on November 10, 1919 in the village of Kurya, Altai Territory (South-West Siberia) to the large farming family of Timofei Alexandrovich and Alexandra Frolovna Kalashnikov. Hardworking and industrious, they provided a solid example for their children and involved them in field labor from an early age. There was no exception for Misha (Mikhail), one of the youngest of their seventeen children. During his preschool years Misha was trusted to take their animals out to pasture and even in his later school years assisted with field labor.
In the autumn of 1938, M.T. Kalashnikov was called up to military service in the Worker-Peasant Red Army (RKKA), completing his term of service in the Kiev Special Military District (KOVO). During his service, he graduated as a commander at the division school with the specialization of tank driver. Thereafter, he continued his service in a tank regiment in the city of Strye (West Ukraine) where he became interested in design and innovation work.
A surviving report of the District Conference of Army Innovators that was published in the newspaper of the Red Army Agency of KOVO dated January 19, 1941, writes of the high opinion held of the combined tank running time meter invented by the student M.T. Kalashnikov. The newspaper includes an article by Kalashnikov himself, describing the working mechanism of the apparatus. The article highlights the complexity of the device and the importance of its applications. For this invention Kalashnikov received his first award, an inscribed watch presented by the commander of KOVO army General G.K. Zhukov himself. This invention and one other, an inertia revolution counter to register the number of actual shots from a tank gun, marked the beginning of what would become a life's work in invention and design for the 20 year old Sergeant Kalashnikov.
