Your child has been identified as eligible for a Summer Pre-Kindergarten Academy offered by the Unified School District. There is space for 20 students in the Academy class, which will meet for three hours a day for a two-week period. A certified Preschool or Kindergarten teacher will offer kindergarten readiness and pre-literacy activities for the children. The focus will be to introduce children to Kindergarten routines, practice social skills, and begin academic activities in reading and math.
The Summer Pre-Kinder Academy will be held at three school sites:
XXXXX
An important feature of the Summer Pre-Kindergarten Academy is the Family Literacy component offered for parents, which will be held during the same times and dates above. One parent or other important adult in your child’s life is invited to spend the first two hours each day with a Parent Educator who will offer sessions of interest and academic preparation. The final hour each day will be spend in the classroom working with students as they prepare for Kindergarten. Adults will be coached on ways to tutor young children and help them practice skills at home. Your participation is strongly encouraged.
Please reserve the above time and dates for your child to attend the Summer Pre-Kindergarten Academy. Priority for enrollment will be based on student criteria and parent participation. There will be a waiting list if more than 20 students and parents commit to attend. Enclosed is a copy of the Summer Pre-Kindergarten Academy Student Registration and Parent Letter of Commitment forms.
You will be contacted later in July to confirm your child’s enrollment in the Academy. If you have any questions, please contact XXXXX, by calling XXXXX. If she is not available, please leave a message and she will return your call.
Sincerely,
