Il buio e l’attesa hanno lo stesso colore.
La ragazza che un giorno sarà seduta nell’oscurità di questo appartamento come in una poltrona ne avrà avuto a sufficienza dell’uno e dell’altra per averne paura. Avrà imparato fin troppo bene e a sue spese che la vista a volte non è un fatto esclusivamente fisico ma mentale. Improvvisamente, i fari di una macchina di passaggio disegneranno un riquadro luminoso che percorrerà le pareti con rapida furtiva curiosità come alla ricerca di un punto immaginario. Poi, dopo la prigionia della stanza, quel ritaglio di luce ritroverà la libertà della finestra e tornerà fuori, all’inseguimento della macchina che l’ha generato. Oltre la cortina delle tende, oltre i vetri, oltre i muri, nel buio giallastro di mille luci e di mille neon, ci sarà ancora quella follia incomprensibile che chiamano New York, la città che tutti dicono di detestare e che tutti continuano ostinatamente a percorrere con l’unico scopo non dichiarato di capire quanto l’amano. E col terrore di scoprire quanto poco ne sono riamati. Così, si ritrovano a essere solo uomini, uguali a quelli che popolano tutto il resto del mondo, semplici esseri umani che si rifiutano di avere occhi per vedere, orecchie per sentire e una voce da contrapporre ad altre voci che gridano più forte.
Sul tavolino di fianco alla sedia dov’è seduta la ragazza ci sarà una Beretta 92 SBM, una pistola col manico di dimensioni leggermente ridotte rispetto al normale, appositamente costruita per adattarsi a una mano femminile.

Darkness and waiting have the same colour.
The girl who one day will be sitting in the darkness of this apartment, as if in an armchair, will have had enough of both to be frightened. She will have learned too well and at her own expense that vision, at times, is not exclusively a physical fact, but mental. Suddenly, the headlights of a passing car will paint an illuminated frame which will run across the walls with a rapid and stealthy curiosity, as if looking for an imaginary point. Then, after the imprisonment of the room, that sliver of light will find freedom from the window and will return outside, to follow the car that has created it. Beyond the walls, beyond the glass panes, beyond the curtains, in the yellowish darkness of a thousand lights and a thousand neon lights, there will still be that incomprehensible madness that people call New York, the city that everyone says they hate and that everyone keeps stubbornly walking across, with the sole undeclared purpose of understanding how much they love it. And with the terror of discovering how little they are loved back by it. Thus, they find themselves being only people, simple people such as those that populate the rest of the world, people who refuse to have eyes for seeing, ears for listening and a voice to fight against other voices which scream out louder.
