About me
I've now been living and working in Spain (Catalonia) for 36 years, so I really am 100% bilingual (Spanish-English-Spanish, plus, of course, Catalan-English-Catalan). After many years in the business field, I've now been doing freelance translating for 6 years. I do all types of texts, although I have great experience in medical/pharmaceutical and technical ones, plus, of course, business texts due to my C.V. However, I've also done very specialised texts on, for example, archaeology, oenology, tourism, the ceramics industry, botany, etc. I can offer references on request.

Although I'm British, I have clients in the US and they seem quite satisfied with my translations into US English.

My rates are negotiable from 10,000 words.

I give tremendous importance to punctuality. I always try to think of the very end client, waiting desperately for a good translation of a vital report for a meeting the next day, or a journalist trying to urgently send his article in whichever language, etc. I used to be an "end client", so I know how it feels when a translation arrives late!

While I try to be true to the original text, I always give importance to making the translation sound NATURAL, i.e. it should not sound TRANSLATED.

I like to have a fluent relationship with my clients, whether they are agencies or not. I think it's important to be able to comment on ambiguities (which are so common in translating - people have so many different ways of wanting to say the same thing, and they're not always successful!) without feeling that my client thinks I should be clairvoyant!

I enjoy translating because I find it creative. I am always aware that a lot may depend on how I do the job, so I try to put myself in the author's shoes, which means really looking into the text and saying what the author wants to say.

I can be contacted through Proz, by telephone (see my profile) or e-mail at mcaulfd@hotmail.com (preferably) or mcaulfd@gmail.com

I also work at weekends and on holidays at no extra charge.
