15 years of experience as a translator/interpreter, including 12 years as a conference interpreter. Conference interpreting for a number of important events.
Here is a small part of what I have handled in my subject areas over many years.
Law:
Former lawyer (University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, commercial companies).. Strong legal skills; practical experience with courts, both as a lawyer and translator/interpreter.
• Part-time, and later freelance, translator/interpreter for IRIS-Ukraine (Institutional Reforms and Informal Sector, a USAID-funded project led by US and Ukrainian lawyers) (1999). Core activities of the project included participation of US lawyers in the development (in cooperation with Ukrainian lawyers, parliament members, Ministry of Justice officials, etc.) of the registration system for property titles and pledges in Ukraine.
• Simultaneous interpreting at the series of seminars held for Ukrainian barristers and judges by the American Bar Association / Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative. (The panel included Justice A. Kharchenko (Supreme Court of Ukraine), Judge T. Griffith (United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit), and Judge E. Ludlow (5th District Court, State of Utah).)
• Consecutive interpreting at court trials and public prosecutors' offices, as well as a lot of written legal and corporate translations, including both Ukrainian and foreign laws and regulations, companies’ articles of association, etc.
• Translation of the Term Sheet, Subscription and Shareholders Agreement, and other documents prepared by a top international law firm for a bg investment transaction planned by one of Ukraine's Top 5 banks. Ca. 25,000 words translated within 9 days.
• Strong legal component within other translation and interpreting assignments (implementation of IT systems in banks, etc).
In many projects, I had to use my knowledge of both Ukrainian and international law to advise the client on differences between legal systems, etc.
Finance/Banking/Insurance:
Excellent knowledge of banking processes and regulations. Two of Ukraine's Top 5 banks are my direct clients. Vast experience (many months) with different banking advisory projects.
• Interpreter, translator and PA to the Team Leader from Lloyds TSB within European Banking Advisory Service - a TACIS-funded project, the first banking advisory project of that scale in Ukraine back in 1996.
• Interpreting (consecutive and chouchoutage) at senior-level meetings between project executives (including Peter van der Krogt, Global Head of ING Advisory) and top managers of three big Ukrainian banks within the framework of Ukrainian Banking Sector Reform project.
• Translations and interpreting (consecutive and chouchoutage) for the huge rebranding project at Nadra Bank implemented by Senteo.
• Lots of translations and interpreting (consecutive and chouchoutage) for two advisory projects managed by Arthur Andersen Polska in Aval Bank, then-biggest bank in Ukraine: (1) implementation of the new Western-made software (Bankmaster RS by Misys plc), and (2) development of the bank’s new organizational model. (Strong legal and IT aspects there, too.)
• Consecutive interpreting for a series of training courses on Investment Banking, Stock Market etc. at the Kyiv Graduate School of Banking, including lectures and workshops by Brian Eales, Kevin Connolly, and other well-known experts from London Business School, London Guildhall University, etc. Some CEOs of modern banks, investment companies, etc in Ukraine were among the students back then in 1997 :).
• Interpreting (consecutive and chouchoutage) at investment negotiations for CEOs and board members of some of the Top 10 Ukrainian banks. Translation of term sheets and other transaction documents for big investment deals.
• Simultaneous interpreting at the Insurance Supervision Workshop organized by the International Advisory Group of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (Canada) at the State Commission for Regulation of Financial Services Markets of Ukraine.
IT/Telecommunications/Information security:
25 years of computer experience. Advanced IT skills and knowledge (networking, IP telephony, databases and DB applications, and much more). Understanding of localization procedures.
• Quite a lot of translations and interpreting in the past for the State Committee of Ukraine for Telecommunications and Informatization, including interpreting for their delegation at the Telecom Asia 2000 exhibition (Hong Kong, December 2000)

• Interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive, and chouchoutage) for ELKO (major IT distributor) at their Dealer Forum (2006), negotiations with regional sales managers of Western IT brands, etc.
• Simultaneous interpreting at Check Point Security Tour 2007 event in Kyiv.
• Full translation and interpreting support in the past for Euroindex Ltd. – the largest exhibition company in Ukraine. EnterEX – the largest computer and IT trade show in Ukraine, MaRHo (equipment for hotels, restaurants, and shops), etc. (I left Euroindex as a client to be served by my former business partner, when splitting our joint business.)
