It's often said by recruiters, "You never know whether you have recruited the right candidate, but you soon know if you have recruited the wrong one".
All too often, managers are asked to conduct interviews without receiving appropriate training from professionals. These ‘enthusiastic amateurs’ may continue to interview for many years without realising how they could improve their skills.
Also, for many interviewers, the process of interviewing is viewed as an interruption to their day. It isn’t what they are employed to do, it isn’t part of their objectives, it isn’t what their performance is measured on. Little surprise then that their preparation is, at best, minimal and their subsequent interviews become unstructured.
