About me
It Makes Sense!

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking your time to pay a visit! Welcome and enjoy exploring my profile!

A little about my life from the perspective of education.

After graduating from Riga State 1st Gymnasium, where besides advanced Math studies I enrolled in advanced language study group (languages being - English, German, French, Latin, and Russian), I studied Medicine, International Law, and European Studies.

In year 2000, I traveled to USA where I studied, worked, and lived for five years. Besides the real life experience, which improved my English skills, I also studied conversational Italian and French. In year 2003, I became a real estate agent working in and around Philadelphia at a well-known real estate franchise - Coldwell Banker. In year 2004, I was promoted to an office manager position for the Coldwell Banker franchise office and continued development in the real estate field by taking advanced level real estate classes at Polley Associates (Pennsylvania). In year 2005, I had completed all classes required for the highest real estate broker education. Some of the courses were: Real Estate Law, Real Estate Construction, Property Management, Real Estate Investment, Brokerage and Office Management, Real Estate Sales, etc., which involved hands-on experience in learning various legal, business, marketing, and sales terminology.

In year 2006, I enrolled in University College of Culture and Economics in Riga, where my major was Translations/Interpreting. My ultimate career goal is to become an interpreter in four languages (Latvian, English, Russian, and Spanish - the former two being active languages and the latter two - passives). I have already begun various activities to move a little bit closer to this goal.

In summer of 2008, after having completed a distance learning course of Spanish, I enrolled in an intensive Spanish language study programme in Cadiz, Spain (a wonderful, ancient city established by the Phoenicians a loooooong time ago on a peninsula in the very South of Andalusia). In the academic year of 2008/2009, within the framework of the EU student mobility programme Erasmus, I studied English and Spanish philology at the University of Jaén (a nice, provincial town in Andalusia, southern Spain).
In summer of 2010, I graduated with a degree in translations and interpreting, in 2011, I obtained a masters degree with distinction from Riga Graduate School of Law and can now proudly call myself a lawyer-linguist.
I am now continuing my academic development in the professional masters programme "Conference Interpreting" at the University of Latvia, and am expected to graduate in 2013.

And now a bit about my career. At the end of the year 2005 (which was also the time when I returned back home from the States), I started my career in freelance translations. Since then, I have developed good cooperation with several local and international intermediary translation offices (recommendations available upon request) and with my own clients.

My favorite topics for translations are real estate (of course) and various kinds of legal and business-related texts, as well as other fields that are interesting to most of the simple and mortal people.

From time to time, I have the opportunity to interpret in a court (civil matters so far), as well as in various other events covering a range of different topics. Oddly enough, I've managed to build up my expertise in construction-related topics (after having translated over 1000 pages of construction-related texts) and now I feel most confident interpreting topics that cover all types of infrastructural facilities.

In December 2010, I took the oath to become a sworn translator.

Being some of my oh-so-many hobbies, I can mention rock-climbing, geography, reading good literature, and of course traveling. I am also a news-junkie of BBC news, a fan of The Economist, among others, therefore am always on top of the current affairs taking place around the world.

Please, feel free to contact me for any additional information with regard to translations and/or interpreting.
