ELECCION DEL TRATAMIENTO INVASIVO DEL HIPERPARATIROIDISMO SECUNDARIO: PUNCION ALCOHOLIZACION O PARATIROIDECTOMIA
Para el manejo del hiperparatiroidismo secundario (HPTs), con frecuencia se debe recurrir al tratamiento invasivo con paratiroidectomía quirúrgica (PTx) o punción alcoholización de paratiroides (PEIT). Mostramos las indicaciones y resultados inmediatos con ambos métodos. Indicamos tratmiento invasivo ante resistencia al tratamiento médico, hipercalcemia, hiperfosfatemia o Producto K x P elevado, con severo HPTs. Se realizaba PEIT si había 1 o 2 nódulos paratiroideos visibles en ecografía, contraindicación quirúrgica o recurrencia post-PTx y niveles moderadamente elevados de PTH.

SELECTION OF INVASIVE TREATMENT FOR SECONDARY HYPERPARATHYROIDISM: PERCUTANEOUS ETHANOL INJECTION THERAPY OR PARATHYROIDECTOMY
In order to manage secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), it is often necessary to resort to invasive treatment with Surgical Parathyroidectomy (PTX) or Percutaneous Ethanol Injection Therapy (PEIT). Specifications and immediate results for both methods are shown. We recommend invasive treatment when there is resistance to medical treatment, hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia , or elevated Ca xP levels, with severe SHPT. ¿QUÉ ES LA ENFERMEDAD DE GAUCHER?
La Enfermedad de Gaucher es una enfermedad genética heredada, que produce un cambio en su material genético (ADN) ocasionando la deficiencia de una enzima llamada glucocerebrosidasa. La función de esta enzima es desintegrar una sustancia lipídica o grasosa en su cuerpo, denominada glucocerebrosida. La glucocerebrosida se presenta como un bloque fundamental en todas las células del cuerpo. Cuando las células se renuevan, las células antiguas y los bloques fundamentales se deben desintegrar y desechar. Dado que la enzima responsable de la desintegración de los bloques fundamentales en las personas con Enfermedad de Gaucher tiene una menor actividad que en personas que no padecen la Enfermedad de Gaucher, no funciona correctamente y el lípido se acumula en su cuerpo.
A medida que transcurre el tiempo, las células se sobrecargan de este lípido y resultan lesionadas. El incremento de este lípido en las células de su cuerpo con el tiempo ocasiona un aumento en el tamaño del hígado y del bazo, problemas óseos y otros síntomas tales como sangrado, anemia y fatiga. | Translation - English

After you read this Patient Information and if you should decide to participate, you must personally sign and date two copies of the form. You will be given a copy of the signed Informed Consent Form so that you may take it home with you for your records.
WHAT IS GAUCHER DISEASE?
Gaucher disease is an inherited, genetic disease that produces a change in your genetic material (DNA) that causes a deficiency of an enzyme called glucocerebrosidase. This enzyme’s function is to break down a lipid, or fatty substance, in your body called glucocerebroside. Glucocerebroside is present as a building block in all cells of the body. When cells are renewed, the old cells and building blocks have to be broken down and discarded. Because the enzyme that is responsible for breaking down the building blocks has less activity in Gaucher Patients than in people who do not have Guacher Disease, the enzyme doesn’t work properly and the lipid accumulates in your body. As time goes by, cells become overloaded with this lipid and become injured. The increase of this lipid in your body’s cells, in time, results in an enlarged liver and spleen, bone problems, and other symptoms, such as bleeding, anemia, and fatigue.
