México posee una de las más amplias redes de museos del mundo que cobijan tanto patrimonio propio como ajeno, resguardado en construcciones históricas o en edificios diseñados ex profeso, de primer nivel en la mayoría de los casos.
No obstante el extenso número de sitios que albergan colecciones de especialidades muy diversas, por extraño que parezca hasta hace poco nuestro país no contaba con un espacio público para coleccionar, preservar, estudiar, interpretar, exhibir, comunicar y difundir el arte contemporáneo propio.
La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) –una de las más grandes y prestigiadas de Hispanoamérica– fue quien en el 2003 asumió el reto de construir en su Centro Cultural un museo de Arte Contemporáneo y de conformar la primera colección pública –coherente y razonada– de esta especialidad en nuestro país.
Sin embargo, todos aquellos involucrados en el devenir y la transformación de las instituciones museísticas saben que no es lo mismo curar exposiciones que dirigir museos y, mucho menos, “hacer un museo”. Del mismo modo, que tampoco resulta igual trazar un plan maestro para fijar parámetros técnicos que conceptuar una institución, sobre todo si ésta se prevé para el tercer milenio.
La conceptuación del nuevo museo, cuya construcción se inició en junio del 2006, comenzó a gestarse dos años antes de la obra civil, en el seno de un Seminario integrado por especialistas de diversas disciplinas reunidos para provocar el perfil de la institución.
La visión indicaba que el Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MuAC) debería ser una institución líder, de vanguardia, que sustentara su quehacer en una constante vocación de aprendizaje, de construcción de conocimiento y de excelencia en su oferta, capaz de singularizar su presencia como referente creativo y museístico dentro de la comunidad universitaria y en el campo nacional e internacional.

Mexico possesses one of the most extensive museum networks in the world, safeguarding its own and foreign heritage in, in most cases, first class historic buildings or ex professo constructions.
Strange as it seems, despite the vast number of sites which house collections of very diverse specialties, until recently Mexico has not had a public space for the collection, conservation, study, interpretation, exhibition and dissemination of its own contemporary art.
In 2003, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) —the largest in the world and most prestigious in Hispanic America— took on the challenge of building a contemporary art museum in its Cultural Center and of pulling together the first public, coherent, carefully selected collection of its kind in the country.
Nevertheless, anyone involved in the future and transformation of museistic institutions knows that curating an exhibition is not the same as running a museum and, much less, “making a museum”. Nor is preparing a master plan to set technical parameters the same as conceptualizing an institution, above all one intended to project into the third millennium.
The conceptualization of the new museum, the construction of which began in June, 2006, started two years before the public works, during a seminar attended by specialists from a variety of disciplines, brought together to define the outline of the institution.
The view was that the Contemporary Art University Museum (MuAC) should be a leading institution, vanguardist, grounding its activity on the constant pursuit of learning, construction of knowledge and excellence in its endeavors, capable of singling itself out as a creative and museistic benchmark within the university community and in the national and international field.

En estudios previos a largo plazo, se observó que aproximadamente 85% de los sujetos abandonaron el estudio durante un seguimiento de un año. Para tener en cuenta algunas salidas de este aproximado, un total de 1,400 sujetos serán registrados en este estudio.

Subjects will be evaluated for safety at designated intervals during the treatment period.

Subjects who terminate the study between the baseline visit and Visit 7 or discontinue the study medication > 48 hours will be given evaluations of Visit 19/ET but will not go through a dose reduction period. Visit 19 will serve as the final study visit and evaluations of Visit 20/ET will be renounced for these subjects.

Subjects who terminate the study between Visit 7 and Visit 19 will go through the evaluations for Visits 19/ET and 20/ET. These subjects will go through a dose reduction period and come back to the final evaluations at visit 20.

Study Population and Principal Inclusion Criteria Male and female subjects between 45 and 80 years of age, inclusive, who have experienced moderate to moderately severe pain related to osteoarthritis. Eligible subjects will have confirmed radiographic evidence (within the last 12 months) of osteophytes in the index joint; functional class I-III of OA in the index joint; classification of arthritis pain intensity >40 mm at the Baseline Visit.

Rescue medication can be taken during a maximum of five (5) consecutive days, with a space of three (3) days between these periods.

Acetaminophen (paracetamol) is permitted to a maximum dose of 3g as a rescue medication during the trial.

Sleep medication (hypnotics/sedatives) are not permitted for a period of 48 hours prior to study visits 6, 9, 12 15 and 19. If a subject takes sleep medication (hypnotics/sedatives) in a period of 48 hours prior to the visit, the visit must be rescheduled.

The use of other COX-II inhibitors, NSAIDs, analgesics, opiates or any other medication specified in the exclusion criteria and Appendix 7 is not permitted during the study.

In previous long-term studies, approximately 85% of subjects abandoned the study during a one year period. To take into account this approximation of withdrawals, a total of 1,400 subjects will be enrolled in this study.

Descriptive statistics (for continuous measurements) or frequency and percentages (for classification measurements) will be presented for all safety and efficacy measurements for current values and changes from the Baseline at each visit as considered convenient. Trajinó en un muestrario buscando un color nuevo y cuando se decidió por el verde pálido el tapicero llamó a dos ayudantes que levantaron los muebles rumbo al taller.

Pueden no hacer nada durante un tiempo o hacer algo menor. Entre los primeros, que son los que más conozco, los hay que han pasado a ser buenos por decreto y hasta el fin de sus días gracias a una sola obra estimable escrita cincuenta años atrás. En el fútbol, por el contrario, no caben el descanso ni el divertimento, de poco sirve tener un extraordinario palmarés histórico o haber conquistado un título el año anterior. En el presente artículo se ofrecen resultados de una investigación sobre construcción del conocimiento desde la aproximación socioepistemológica. En particular estamos interesados en el estudio de los procesos presentes en la articulación de los sistemas conceptuales matemáticos a los que hemos llamado procesos de convención y articulación matemática (Martínez-Sierra, 2005). De manera específica este trabajo indaga sobre qué alternativas pueden ser factibles para la construcción escolar del significado de los números complejos, bajo la hipótesis de que su significado puede ser construido a través del proceso de convención matemática. This article presents the results of an investigation into the construction of meaning from the socioepistemological approach. We are particularly interested in studying the processes involved in the articulation of conceptual mathematics systems which we have called processes of convention and mathematical articulation (Martínez-Sierra, 2005). More specifically, this work looks further into which alternatives may be feasible for the construction of the meaning of complex numbers in schools, under the hypothesis that meaning can be built through the process of mathematical convention. The analysis of the students’ production, while working on a sequence of activities designed by us based on the above hypothesis, provides evidence that in spite of the students’ insistence that “square roots of negative numbers do not exist,” our sequence induced them to operate with them and in this way build a meaning on the operative plane.

About me

I have lived and worked in Mexico since 1988 which has given me the invaluable opportunity to study the language and culture first hand. Since my entry into this field in 1993, a baptism by fire collaborating on a translation of the Popul Vuh (Mayan legend), I continue to learn more and more with every project I undertake.

Between 1994 and 1999 I took a translation/interpretation course with the University of Northern Iowa, which sealed my love for this kind of work. The course was given in modules in Merida, Yucatan by Faculty members when they brought groups of students to the Yucatan, hence the extended time period.

It has become obvious to me that speed and quality are not interchangeable: one does not justify the lack of the other. My goal is always to meet, or surpass, clients' expectations on both counts.

I have done extensive work on the Mayan ruins/pyramids especially in the Yucatan peninsula, which has been my home since 1988, including several projects for the Secretaria de Turismo del Estado de Yucatan (SECTUR) and the "Chichen Itza 7 Wonders" campaign.
