Hence the notion that what has been a trademark of comparative literature, namely working in multiple languages, ought, ideally, be carried over into “comparative cultural studies”. Developed since the late 1980s by Steven Tötösy de Zepetnek, the conceptualization of comparative cultural studies is a “merger” of tenets of the discipline of comparative literature — minus the discipline’s Eurocentrism and nation-orientation, as discussed above — with those of cultural studies including the latter’s explicit ideological perspective.
| Spanish to English: Subtitles for Parking (2007) General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cinema, Film, TV, Drama | Source text - Spanish Por una vez en tu vida.
¿Marina?
| Translation - English For once in your life.
Common sense, Miguel Ángel.
What would he do if this happened to him?
But how could this happen to my father?
He’s the one gone to the parking lot.
He’d control the old man.
That’s it. We must watch your father.
Call a detective. That’s it.
A detective, right?
Now you want me to hire a detective.
Just pick up the Yellow Pages and
look under ‘D’ for detective.
Miguel Angel, I have one’s number.
What?
I’ve got a detective’s number.
Ah. You have a detective’s telephone number
Where did you get it from?
Marina gave it to me.
Marina?

I completed two degrees in English and in Literary theory at a graduate level at the University of Barcelona, and hold an MA in Comparative literature for the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain. My first studies were literary and technical and scientific translation, back in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Besides this, I have 10 years of experience translating EN>ES and sometimes ES>EN academic texts of all kinds (articles, papers, dissertations, projects, presentations, theses), in social sciences and anthropology, philosophy and philology, literary and cultural studies. I also have experience translating biomedicine papers, having studied medicine for 2 years myself.
Since 2011, I work part-time at the Language Services of the UB -where I mainly do translations of institutional texts and certificates- and combine this with freelance translation whenever possible! |
