| Translation - English Day of Sport attracts record number of visitors
Last weekend saw the sixth “Austrian Day of Sport” take place at the Heldenplatz in Vienna. Over 300,000 visitors enjoyed both the glorious weather and this well organised event, which once again gave all of Austria’s sports federations the opportunity to showcase their sport. The Austrian Chancellor, Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel, was in attendance, as well as sports stars from all disciplines. Salzburg’s bid for the Winter Olympics in 2014 was also represented, along with the Austrian Olympic Committee and the Austrian Paralympic Committee.
The Day of Sport, organised by the Sports department of the Federal Chancellory, has been a great success story. In 2005, it was hard to imagine improving on that year’s figure of 250,000 visitors, but this weekend, 300,000 Austrians came to the Hofburg to experience all aspects of Austrian sport and to see stars like Felix Gottwald, Hermann Maier, Benni Raich and Alexandra Meisnitzer in the flesh.
Encouraging an interest in sport was the basic idea behind the “Day of Sport” at its inception seven years ago and every year demonstrates that this approach is working. Austrians have a greater interest in sport now than ever before.
Salzburg’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics was represented on two fronts - in the tents of both the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) and the Austrian Paralympic Committee (ÖPC). The aim was to introduce the successful “Ich bin dafür...” (“I’m backing it…”) campaign for the bid in the capital and to greet the many guests, including virtually all of the sports stars.
Chancellor Schüssel, who is also Austria’s Sports Minister, was there to enjoy this wonderful day along with the hundreds of thousands of sports fans.
Heinz Jungwirth, Secretary General of the Austrian Olympic Committee commented, “Every year I look forward to this weekend in September. The passion that Austrians have for sport is incredible – no matter what the sport, all the stands are full. This is the ideal platform for introducing young people to the joys of sport. And there is also the sense that everyone is behind Salzburg’s bid for the Winter Olympics in 2014. There was a great deal of interest in the bid, both in our tent and in the Austrian Paralympic Committee’s tent. When you also consider that the cycling World Championship took place in Salzburg this weekend, that means there was a total of over 500,000 people at just two sporting events. Quite impressive for a small country like Austria.”

| French to English: Forex Detailed field: Finance (general) | Source text - French • cours acheteur et cours vendeur
| Translation - English • Purchase price and selling price
When a currency dealer is questioned on the price of a currency by a bank, they indicate two prices per currency: the purchase price and the selling price might be for example: EUR/DH: 10.5450 - 10.5470. This means that the foreign exchange dealers buy Euros against Dirhams at 10.5450 which is therefore the purchase price and sell at 10.5470 which is the selling price.
• Market price and official price (fixing)
On the foreign exchange market, quotations are established by the foreign exchange dealers, by telephone or dealing throughout the day, according to the law of supply and demand and contingent on the positions of the banks. Some banks are net currency purchasers, while others are net currency sellers.
However, in some countries, including France, there is a currency exchange that sets an official rate, called fixing. The commercial banks and the Central Bank reconcile their supply and demand, currency by currency, and decide on a fixing. In this way, each day there is a single set official price per currency (even though the market price changes from one second to the next) to which are added set margins to determine the purchase price and selling price. In its currency exchanges, the clientele can choose between the market price and the fixing.
• Direct and Indirect
The type of quotation practiced in the various countries is either direct or indirect. Direct quotation defines the value of a national currency unit in terms of a foreign currency: In London, we will see 1 GBP: 1.6050 -1.6060 USD. While indirect quotation, practiced by the majority of countries, defines the number of national currency units that can be obtained against a foreign currency unit: In Casablanca, we will see 1EUR: 10.5450 - 10.5470 Dhs.

I was anxious to experience the exciting world of the night that had fascinated me since childhood. The time had come to find my place in this adult universe, that I imagined to be far preferable to the world of adolescents. I did not yet know how wrong I was.
It is pointless to repeat it but, at age18, I had not yet started my periods and so lacked the means for playing vamps and femmes fatales. But that is a secret between us, shhh!
Chantal, my friend and confidante, joined me in my delirium and in my fantasies. We were inseparable at that time and each confided in the other her most intimate secrets. Like all young girls, our world revolved around boys, young men who made girls suffer but that we could not get over. At that age we passionately believed in the idea of a Prince Charming, who would come and carry us off on his shining white charger. This is the kind of fairy story that shapes little girls’ childhoods. The problem is that, usually, the long-awaited Prince Charming gets lost on the way because he refuses to stop and ask for directions.

I studied languages and translation at the University of Durham between 1999 and 2004. Since then I have worked in IT and then as a Project Manager in a well-known translation agency before deciding to go fully freelance earlier this year.
Since 2001 I have honed my translation skills doing freelance work for a variety of agencies and independent clients. My main areas of expertise are IT, marketing and Travel and Tourism (I translated a large portion of Lufthansa's website in 2001 via a North East based agency) although I have also completed literary, diploma, certificate and patent translations as well as a whole host of letters, announcements etc.
In my time as a Translation Project Manager I handled projects and proof-read for a number of the largest names in the business including IBM, HSBC, Barclays, Jet2 and many others. I know how important quality and promptness are in this business and I am well-placed to offer both.
You'll find my prices are among the lowest around. This is because I love to translate - it is as much my hobby and my passion as it is my job. You'll find you'll love my translations too.
My rates start at £40 per 1000 words for Spanish and French and £55 per 1000 words for German. This only varies if there is a lot of research or formatting to be done.
My minimum charge is £10 and my hourly rate is £20.
I work from French (Canadian and European) and Spanish (European and Latin American) into English. My native language is British English although I have an American associate who proof-reads my work when it is destined for a North American audience.
I have developed my language skills by hard study and by spending a lot of time in France and Spain and chatting with my German colleagues in my old job. I spent a year in Nancy studying at the University and had the good fortune to work in Chile for 6 months too.
As well as translation I offer proof-reading, DTP QA, editing, research, market research and telephone services.
I can also offer web site and software design and localisation.
I also have a wealth of Project Management experience and I know a lot of highly qualified, highly competent translators in other language combinations so if you have a job you just don't have time to handle give me a call! | Keywords: translate, translation, translator, translater, language, research, formatting, reasonable, French, Spanish, English, UK, US, United Kingdom, United States, Latin, proof-reading, proof-reader, DTP, QA, editing, research, market research, telephone, services, web site, software, design, localisation, localization, legal, financial, patent, certificate, diploma, marketing, literature, IT, computer, hardware, software, travel, tourism, media, telecommunications, food, cookery, recipe, culture, Project Management, experience, ttranslate, trranslate, translates, transcription, per word, per hour, hourly, regular
