le sang. D’une part, cette fonction assure le transport de l’oxygène des poumons vers les cellules et d’autre part, assure le transport du gaz carbonique des cellules vers les poumons ;
La respiration externe : C’est d’une part, la distribution de l’oxygène des poumons vers le sang et d’autre part, la distribution du gaz carbonique du sang vers les poumons ;

without the continual contribution of oxygen whose body has needed to « feed » the billions cells which compose it. Without breathing, death occurs in few minutes. Providing the oxygen, the respiratory system enables production of energy. If the efficiency of respiratory system is insufficient, the decreasing of oxygenation and the processing of energy will also be reduced. If the situation do not re-establish quickly, that person can die. The main function of lungs is to enable the exchanges of oxygen and carbon dioxide
between air and blood. This function implies 4 processes:
Pulmonary ventilation or breathing: This function implies the circulation of air in the lungs, inspiration and expiration, in order to renew gases inside them ;
Transportation of respiratory gases: This role is provided by the cardiovascular system and by the blood. On the one hand, this function provides the oxygen transportation from lungs toward cells and on the other hand, provides the transportation of the carbon dioxide from cells toward lungs ;
The external breathing: On the one hand, it is the distribution of oxygen from lungs toward blood and on the other hand, the distribution of carbon dioxide from blood toward lungs ;
The internal breathing: It is the diffusion of the oxygen from blood toward organism cells and the diffusion of the carbon dioxide from cells toward capillaries
