Am Strand von Maspalomas lagen nur wenige Menschen, verbissene Sonnensucher, die bei zwanzig Grad und einer leichten Brise aus Südwest auf die Löcher zwischen den Wolken warteten. Trotzdem war der Strand stark bevölkert, von Spaziergängern, Dünenwanderern, Joggern, Footern und Nordic Walkern, die über den hellen Sand glitten wie über Schnee. Es war ideales Wetter, um sich etwas Bewegung zu verschaffen, ideal auch zum Fahrradfahren. So ist es kein Wunder, daß sich die Kanarischen Inseln in den Sportplatz Europas verwandeln, wenn auf dem Festland die Tage kurz und ungemütlich werden.
Im Bike-Center von Playa del Inglés auf Gran Canaria gab es Räder für jeden Anspruch zu mieten. Gran Canaria, so hieß es im üblichen Freizeitsport-Englisch, zähle zu den besten Mountainbike-Locations Europas. Tolle Trails führten durch grüne Kiefernwälder, geniale Sand- und Schotterpisten durch tropische Plantagen und Palmenhaine, ruppige Offroadpassagen durch bizarre Felslandschaften, Uphills durch traumhafte Täler und Downhills durch atemraubende Schluchten. "Get your adventure", hieß es animierend.

Estavam poucas pessoas estendidas na praia de Maspalomas, apenas alguns amantes do sol obstinados, que sob a temperatura de 20 graus e uma leve brisa de Sudoeste esperavam por uma aberta entre as nuvens.
Apesar de tudo a praia estava bastante povoada por pessoas que passeavam, andavam sobre as dunas, faziam jogging, caminhavam e por Nórdicos que pisavam a areia clara como se de neve se tratasse. O tempo estava ideal para fazer exercício bem como para andar de bicicleta. Não admira por isso que as Ilhas Canárias se tenham transformem no complexo desportivo da Europa quando os dias se começam a tornar mais curtos e desagradaveis no continente.
No centro de cicloturismo da Playa del Inglés na Gran Canaria havia bicicletas de aluguer para todos os gostos. No habitual clube Inglês de actividades desportivas de tempos livres a Gran Canaria, é considerada um dos melhores locais da Europa para a práctica de bicicleta de montanha. Fantásticos trilhos consuzem-nos através de verdes Pinhais, incriveis pistas de areia e gravilha através de plantações tropicais e de Palmeiras, velhas estradas secundárias através de bizarras paisagens rochosas, para cima através de vales paradisíacos e para baixo através de ravinas de suster a respiração. "Get your adventure", diz-se animadamente.
