Career history
I’ve been working freelance as copywriter, editor and sometime translator since 1988. Then in 1997 I moved to France and since then have combined writing and translating in equal parts. (This explains why I’ve only put 3 years as my full-time experience; part-time it’s been much longer.) I specialise in the corporate/business sector and work both direct and through the intermediary of an agency. An organised person by nature, I work fast and believe in deadlines.
I’ve a 2:1 in French from the University of Wales, (Distinction in the oral exam), and a Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures from the Université de Poitiers. I’m a member of the Institute of Copywriters and of the Group Partners (London-based business consultancy) Expert Network.
I’ve translated a very wide variety of material, from websites to direct mail and, using my skills as a copywriter, I’ve made a speciality of reworking translations into fluent English and with due regard to the needs and culture (US, UK, CEO/Board level, general public, technical specialist etc) of the end-reader. Whatever the brief, fitness for purpose is fundamental. I like to build long-term relationships based on mutual respect and trust as it’s often teamwork that produces the best results. For large and/or urgent projects, I can call on the skills of several other translators used to working together as a team.
Recent clients include Advention, AT&T, Centre International d’Art Contemporain, Conseil Général du Finistère, Inter-Scribe, Kerys, Le Robert, SAP…
Rates negotiable depending on the specifics of each job. I can translate between 2000 and 3000 words a day depending on complexity.
