With a background in diplomacy, I enjoy translations in a wide variety of fields. However, having been a translator part-time and full-time for about eleven years now, I must say that in addition to straightforward general translations, I have a strong preference for the social sciences and in particular, international relations, migration and sociology and am working toward translating in these fields only.

I started off my professional translation career as a part of my duties at UNEP in 2000 and the CARICOM Secretariat from 2001-2004 followed by a year of freelancing. However, it was at the World Bank from 2005-2008 while working as a full-time translator that I really received a lot of mentorship from senior translators and "upped my game" (with all of the humbling that entails!)

I've been freelancing ever since and work from French and Spanish into English, possibly the two most common (.e. cheap) language pairs out there, but I enjoy it!

I also enjoy working from Jamaican Patois (a.k.a Patwa or Jamaican Creole) into English, a language pair that has found me over the years with various surprising requests from law enforcement. Having spent years working on my PhD thesis, which involved research on individuals deported from the USA to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, this particular Islander has apparently acquired a specialized skillset.

I look forward to receiving even more language requests from all corners of the earth in 2012!
