I worked for 30 years in the electronics & electromechanical industry, in a range of production, sales, marketing and support roles, with very demanding clients. This covered electronic instrumentation mostly for industrial & laboratory use, tank combat simulators, instrumentation tape recorders for airborne & various other military & civil applications, flight data recorders ("black boxes"), and sales administration.

This was followed by 12 years in oilfield services, in Technical Documentation, which included a great deal of French > English translation, and technical writing, editing, proofreading and publication in English of documents written by people from many different countries.

In all my career has been roughly 50% in Britain and 50% in France.

I started translating free-lance on a part-time basis about 35 years ago. Clients past and present include: Schlumberger, Enertec, Sony, RATP, Scania, Lufthansa, Plessey, MSDS, FMV Sweden, MoD-PE, Alitalia, Fairchild-Weston, Solartron, EMR, Panavia, Selenia, Johnson & Johnson, BAe, Volvo.
