I am completing my degree in Translation Studies (French) this year. I hold a conditional offer of a place for the Masters in Technical, Scientific and Medical Translation with Translation Technology (English - Polish and Polish - English) at Imperial College, London.
I am currently working as a telephone interpreter (Polish <> English) for HM Revenue & Customs and the Department for Work and Pensions. The majority of calls I handle are regarding Tax Credits, Child Benefit, Jobseekers' Allowance applications and Tax Office queries.
During my year abroad I worked full-time as an in-house French to English translator for an aviation company in France, carrying out the following projects:
Translation:
- company magazine
- instructions for crisis communication
- guides for factory workers
- non-technical manuals
- business communication
- presentations (mainly product information and financial results)
- memos, e-mails etc.
Translation checking:
- technical guides and manuals
- incident reports
Since 2002, I have been doing occassional work in the PL<>EN language pair, such as:
- birth, death and marriage certificates
- CRB certificates
- diplomas
- syllabi
- insurance documents
- tender offers
- business agreements
