I became a freelance translator in 2007, having worked in a bilingual environment in the international press circulation industry in Paris for 14 years. I hold dual British-French citizenship and have been part of a French family for 16 years. I have two children.
I have a BA in International marketing and French and am studying for an MA in Translation (UWE, Bristol) by distance learning. Having completed the taught part of the course, I am now working on the last stage, the dissertation. I was very keen to have formal training in translation and the course gives excellent insight into the decision-making process involved in translation and a firm grounding in text linguistics.
My marketing background and experience in working as import account manager in France with clients from all over Europe and the US has provided me with good knowledge of business terminology. My work in the press industry also gave me an insight into transport, printing, distribution (with many hours spent in distribution warehouses and at print plants) and retail.
Living in France for a long period of time has enabled me to gain an in depth understanding of the language in all aspects of daily life. I visit my family in England regularly and am a member of a local association (Le Mans 24h Classic British Welcome) which has many British members. These contacts, along with access to the British media and reading novels, keep me up to date with the English language.
