The late Sir Nicholas Shackleton (1937-2006), in addition to his outstanding achievements in earth science, made significant contributions to the clarinet scholarship, both through his own research and by forming a substantial collection of clarinets and other woodwind instruments. Sir Nicholas made his collection available to the international community of organologists. The Sir Nicholas Shackleton Collection was bequeathed to the University of Edinburgh who will continue Sir Nicholas’s use of the collection to support learning and research. A new display of the Collection will be inaugurated and the catalogue of the Collection will be launched during this meeting.

El fallecido Sir Nicholas Shackleton (1937-2006), además de sus extraordinarios logros en Ciencias de la Tierra, realizó contribuciones significativas al estudio del clarinete; mediante su propia investigación personal y con la creación de una considerable colección de clarinetes y otros instrumentos de viento. Sir Nicholas puso su colección a disposición de la comunidad internacional de organólogos. La Colección de Sir Nicholas Shackleton fue legada a la Universidad de Edimburgo que continuará utilizándola, tal y como hizo Sir Nicholas, para ayudar al aprendizaje y a la investigación.
