My love for foriegn languages started with my early childhood education as I had my school education in a renowned foreign languages school in Egypt where I was taught by foreign teachers and almost all communication took place in English. In my school, I acquired a quasi-native fluency in English, and mastered the French language. Then, in spite of opting for the science-focused courses in High School, I joined the prestigious Al-Alsun (Languages) Faculty, of Ain-Shams University, chosing to turn my passion for languages into a career in which I aspired to excel. In the university, I studied the art and science of translation as well as English literature and culture. And I took a minor in French.
While still an undergraduate, I worked as a part time translator in the Egyptian Authority of Energy and Electricity. This availed me of particularly huge experience with technical terms and concepts on which I built during my work as a freelancer. Upon graduation I trained at MITSCO Translation and Translation Centre where I later worked as a language instructor.
Though my experience is quite diverse, technical and medical texts form the bulk of my experience. I also have special interest in subjects related to education, child care, environment, food processing, and psychology.
Working as a translator since 1997, I have accomplished projects in a variety of fields.
In the technical domain, I have translated documents detailing maintenance procedures of Power stations and Substations (for the Egyptian Authority of Energy and Electricity), as well as texts related to operation and maintenance of various industrial equipment, (cranes, compressors, atomised lubrication systems.. etc), underground constructions, furniture industry, nuclear energy, automotive industry, information technology, in addition to numerous manuals of mobile phones, routers, scanners, printers, copiers, HDTV, I-pod accessories among others. I have also translated large volumes of comprehensive training material for workers in the domain of construction including masons, carpenters, electricians, and tile-setters.
In the medical projects that I have handled include documents concerned with scanning of neonates, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, hospital reports, patient self-observation forms, hepatitis, and authorization of release of medical information, as well as as well as medical equipment (such as Urodynamic systems, Electrical stimulation units, Analgesic electrical stimulation units, perineal electrical stimulation units, Normalized Balance Platform training and testing unit, among others)
I also have experience pertaining to social welfare and refugee support, environment, education, psychology, tourism, journalism, and foods and beverages, and official documents (business registers, birth certificates, school and university certificates, and driving licenses.
I have localized a number of websites
Throughout my work as a freelancer, I've tackled different types of files, including word documents, MSExcel, PowerPoint and webpages, using Trados workbench, T-windows, and Tageditor. I also have previous experience with SDLX.
I can also offer DTP services in most Middle Eastern languages (including Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, and Persian).
