Detailed description
Referring first to figure 1, an embodiment of the disposable hookah bowl is shown.
The hookah bowl includes a tobacco compartment 112, an ignitable product shelf 114, a heat inlet seal116, and a particulate outlet seal 118.
The tobacco compartment 112 is the container of the hookah bowl and includes a heat inlet 120, a particulate outlet 122(in the Egyptian style) and the ignitable product shelf 114. The tobacco compartment is manufactured of a self-supporting durable material that is resistant to both moisture and heat. Materials commonly used to manufacture hookah bowl tobacco compartment may be used in the present invention;
Such materials include clay, metal, Pyrex, plastic, ceramic, and acrylic. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the tobacco compartment is manufactured of a substantially translucent material, example Pyrex. The ignitable product shelf 114 is a tray in the interior of the tobacco compartment 112 that is dimensioned to support an ignitable product. Preferred ignitable products contemplated for use in the present invention include tobacco combined with moisture bearing additives, example maassel .however, simply because the present invention was designed with the maassell containment in mind does not limit the hookah bowl for maassell.
The tobacco compartment is not limited to any particular type of tobacco, tobacco derivative, or smokable product; rather, any smokable product capable of use within the tobacco compartment will suffice.
The ignitable product shelf 114 includes a particulate passage 124. The particulate passage may include on or more holes within the ignitable product shelf 114. The purpose of the particulate passage is to allow fluid communication from the heat inlet 120 and the particulate outlet 122. The heat inlet 120 is the portion of the tobacco compartment 112 that allows a downward passage of the heat into the tobacco compartment 112, which ignites any product upon the ignitable product shelf 114. The particulate outlet 122 includes one or more holes in the bottom the tobacco compartment that allows the passage of particulates from the hookah bowl into a hookah pipe or similar object
The heat inlet seal 116 and the particulate outlet seal 118 are obstructions that block moisture egress. The seals substantially retard the flow of gases between the interior gases of the tobacco container and the exterior gases of whatever environment the hookah bowl 110 finds itself. In preventing this environmental equilibrium, the seal should be composed of a material substantially impervious to moisture passage, if not gaseous passage. These qualities need too be present for a reasonable shelf-life time. There are many devices and structures having varied compositions that will fulfill the purpose of the seal of the present invention. Because sealing devices are too numerous to discuss within this disclosure, this description will focus on preferred sealing devices.
Figure 1 shows the preferred seal for both, the heat inlet seal 116 and the particulate outlet seal 118, an adhesive patch covering both the heat inlet 120 and particulate outlet 122 respectively. The adhesive patch can be at the least, simple sticker made of a moisture containment material. When an adhesive patch is used, it is preferred that there be structure to assist a user in removing the adhesive patch. Patch tabs 126 that abut the perimeter of the seal serve such purpose admirably. A patch tab 126 is a seal protrusion that does not include an adhesive material. As figure 2 illustrates, the lack of adhesive allows a user to easily manipulate the patch tab 126, which allows the user to more easily dislocate the adhesive patch 116. The preferred adhesive patch is made of a weatherproof vinyl.
Figure 2 further illustrates an embodiment of the hookah bowl 110 that includes a combustion platform 128. The combustion platform 128 is a platform having a combustion passage 132 of one or more holes that lead into the heat inlet. The combustion platform 132 allows a user to place a combustible material thereon rather than labor through conventional methods for generating heat in the hookah bowl, example :using perforated foil to support coals .the preferred combustion platform is manufactured of a self-supporting durable material that is resistant to both moisture and heat. The shape and configuration of the combustion platform 128 can be any that allows the combustion platform to fulfill its purpose: support coal and separate the coal from any tobacco product upon the ignitable product tray. The preferred material of the combustion tray is a hard plastic. In embodiment with the combustion platform 128 and an adhesive patch 116, the adhesive patch 116 is preferably positioned on the portion of the combustion platform proximate to the outside environment.
Although the combustion cap 128 can be form fitted onto the tobacco compartment 112, as figure 3 shows, the present invention can additionally includes threading 134 on the combustion can 128(threading not shown) and the tobacco container 112. In the embodiment pictured, the threading 134 is on the exterior of the tobacco compartment 112 and the interior of the combustion cap128; however, embodiment having combustion caps 128 with exterior threading and tobacco compartments 112 with interior threading
may be preferred.
The hookah bowl embodiment 110 of figure 3 further includes an elastic impediment 136 that frictionally engages the particulate outlet 122. As this hookah bowl embodiment 110 illustrates, sealing devices need not be always included on exterior portions of the hookah bowl 110, the elastic impediment 136 is a device used to seal the particulate outlet 122 against moisture egress. Unlike the adhesive patch, the elastic impediment uses friction to block moisture; the elastic impediment 136 is made of collapsible material that
adjusts to the interior structure of the particulate outlet 122. Upon use, a user need only remove the elastic impediment 136 from the particulate outlet 122.
The hookah bowl embodiment of figure 3 further illustrates the outlet cap 130 of the present invention. The outlet cap 130 at least partially covers the particulate outlet 122 and allows a hookah bowl 110 to stand freely on a surface. Although versions of the outlet cap 130 include outlet cap holes 138 to allow the passage of smoke. Other versions of the outlet cap may not have holes and therefore serve as a seal. Although an outlet cap 130 can be size-fitted onto the tobacco compartment 112, an additionally joining means includes threading 134 on both the outlet cap 130 and the tobacco compartment 112.
Figure 4 illustrates a Lebanese style hookah bowl embodiment 110 that includes a combustion cap128 having a containment ridge 140 about its perimeter. A purpose of the
Combustion cap is to allow a user to place charcoal thereon; the containment ridge 140 is a protrusion that prevents the large portions portion of combustion material from falling from the combustion cap 128. An additional benefit of the containment ridge is that it shields combustion material from the wind drafts at angles substantially parallel to the upper surface of the combustion cap 128.
Of further note in figure4 is the cap seal 142, which shares structural similarities to the outlet cap 130 of figure 3. the cap seal 142 of figure 4 differs from the outlet cap of figure 3 in that the cap seal 142 of figure 4 does not include any holes through which the air and moisture may escape the tobacco compartment 112. The cap seal 142 screws onto to tobacco compartment 134. Although the cap seal 142 of figure 4 is shown engaging the particulate outlet 122 of the hookah bowl, the cap seal 142 could also be dimensioned to engage the tobacco compartment112 in a manner that obstructs the heat inlet 120.
Figures 5A and 5B show a Lebanese style hookah bowl embodiment that features a plug seal 144; the plug seal 144 frictionally engages the interior of the particulate outlet so the moisture and the air cannot escape the tobacco compartment 112. The plug seal 144 includes a seal handle 146 that allows a user to easily remove the plug seal with the user’s fingers. Figure 5A depicts the plug seal 144 when frictionally engaging the interior of the particulate outlet 122; figure 5B depicts the structural arrangement of a preferred plug seal that has been removed from the interior of a hookah bowl 110. The hookah bowl further includes a threaded particulate outlet, which would allow the hookah bowl 110 to mate with a hookah pipe (not shown) having threading.
Figure 6 illustrates a hookah bowl product 210. The hookah bowl product 210 includes the hookah bowl 110 having a combustible product 900 disposed therein. Though the present invention is configured to work best with maassell, any combustible product capable of use with the present invention is sufficient.
Although the present invention has been described in considerable detail with reference to certain preferred versions thereof, other versions would be readily apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art. Therefore, the spirit and scope of the appended claims should not be limited to the description of the preferred versions contained herein.
What is claimed is:
1- a disposable hookah bowl comprising:
A tobacco comportment with a heat inlet for accepting a downward passage of the
heat into said tobacco compartment, and a particulate outlet;
An ignitable product shelf, disposed within said tobacco compartment having a particulate passage, for retaining a smokable product;
A heat inlet seal, obstructively engaging said heat inlet, for retaining moisture within said tobacco compartment ; and
A particulate outlet seal , obstructively engaging said particulate outlet, for retaining moisture within said tobacco compartment.
2- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 1 wherein said heat inlet seal includes an adhesive for removable affixing said heat inlet seal to said tobacco compartment.
3- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 1 wherein said heat inlet seal is dimensioned to frictionally engage said heat inlet.
4- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 2 further comprising a combustion platform, in thermal communication with said heat inlet, with a combustion passage and a combustion platform perimeter.
5- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 4 wherein both said combustion platform and said tobacco compartment include threading, whereby said threading of said combustion platform and said threading of said tobacco compartment are dimensioned to mate.
6- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 4 further comprising a containment ridge about said combustion platform perimeter.
7- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 5 further comprising an outlet cap configured to at least partially obstruct said particulate outlet.
8- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 1 wherein said particulate outlet seal includes an adhesive.
9- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 1 wherein said particulate outlet seal frictionally engages said particulate outlet.
10- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 9 wherein said particulate outlet lid further comprised a handle dimensioned to facilitate particulate outlet lid removal.
11- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 9 wherein said particulate outlet seal is an elastic impediment.
12- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 1 wherein said tobacco compartment is fabricated of a substantially translucent material.
13- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 1 further comprising an array of a combustible product, loosely disposed between said heat inlet seal and said ignitable product shelf.
14- A disposable hookah bowl comprising:
A tobacco compartment having both a heat inlet and a tapered particulate outlet;
An ignition shelf disposed within said tobacco compartment having an ignition passage;
A heat inlet seal, obstructively engaging said heat inlet, for retaining moisture within said tobacco compartment; and
An outlet impediment, obstructively engaging said particulate outlet, for retaining moisture within said tobacco compartment.
15- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 14 wherein said tapered particulate outlet includes threading.
16- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 15 further comprising a threaded outlet cap at least partially obstructing said threaded particulate outlet.
17- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 14 further comprising a combustion platform, disposed between said heat inlet seal and said ignitable product shelf, with a combustion passage
18- The disposable hookah bowl of claim 17 further comprising a threaded outlet cap configured to at least partially obstruct said tapered particulate outlet.

الشرح بالتفصيل:
بالعودة أولاَ للرسم 1، يظهر فيه صحن النرجيلة المستهلك. يحوي هذا الصحن حجرة للتبغ 112، وقرص قابل للاشتعال 114، وسدادة مدخل الحرارة 116، وسدادة مخرج الدخان 118.
حجرة التبغ 112 هي وعاء صحن النرجيلة وتحتوي على سدادة الحرارة 120، ومخرج الدخان 122 (حسب التصميم المصري) ورف المنتج القابل للاشتعال 114. حجرة التبغ مصنوعة من مادة صلبة بحد ذاتها قادرة على مقاومة الرطوبة والحرارة. المواد الشائعة الاستخدام في صناعة صحن النرجيلة المصمم لوضع التبغ قد تستخدم في الاختراع الحالي.

Concept paper for a pilot project in a West Bank refugee camp
The goal of the proposed pilot project is to help create a protective environment in a refugee camp community that has suffered the effects of protracted displacement, armed conflict, pervasive internal violence, prolonged restrictions on movement and restricted access to quality services, occupation- and Barrier-induced deprivation of livelihood and resources, confiscation and destruction of assets, and socio-economic distress, unemployment and impoverishment.
Children and young people will be the focus of the project, as well as parents and others working with them, including teachers and other UNRWA staff (counsellors, community and youth workers).
Project model, description and components
1. Reflecting the principles and standards of the CRC, the project will use an adapted form of the Protective Environment Framework (PEF) to assist refugee children and young people who have “already suffered failures of protection, and may need help with physical and psychological recovery and social re-integration.” Additionally, in order to protect all young people from deliberate harm or its further infliction, the project will develop and reinforce elements that make up a protective environment at the community level. It will promote and reinforce children’s life skills, knowledge and participation; help to rebuild the protective capacity of families and communities; help to support and sustain protective essential services; and develop and support rebuilding of a protective culture and customs.
2. The project will be linked in a protection network with national and international entities focused on developing other components of the PEF, including monitoring and reporting on protection issues, promoting systemic change through government capacity building, legislation and enforcement; and encouraging civil society and media engagement with protection issues, including exposure of societal protection failures.
3. The project will adopt a protection-oriented human rights-based framework (inclusive of a participatory gender analysis). The project will also be conflict-sensitive, reflecting principles of international humanitarian law and ensuring that project initiatives are aimed at helping to protect children in armed conflict and conditions of prolonged occupation. Project interventions will employ participatory and other RBA principles and develop “protection assurance”, inclusive of outcomes-oriented baselines and monitoring capacities. Focusing on children and young people, the project will attend to the special needs of disabled, working and girl children and youth. It will reflect and develop good practice and codes of conduct.
4. In recognition of the wide-reaching effects of the WB’s economic crisis and high unemployment rate among youth, the project will seek to integrate development and private sector initiatives into the protective environment concept. It will employ development-oriented participatory approaches (e.g. Sustainable Livelihood Approach) and explore private sector partnerships and skills building projects (e.g. INJAZ and NASEEJ).
5. The project will be integrated with community-level UNRWA services, the Education Programme’s human rights and conflict-resolution/tolerance project, school parliament and other human rights and democracy projects, and the cross-cutting Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP). In connection with promotion of the relevant PEF factors listed above, CMHP counsellors will be trained in delivering a comprehensive “child in school in community” programme. This will, inter alia, provide input to existing community structures to improve general and specific mental well-being by providing frameworks and support for community self-support groups. Group members will be encouraged to develop their own sub-groups that can call on the CMHP for specific input. Teachers will be provided with training to deal with issues that concern them in their role as teachers, modellers and de facto community catalysers. Alliances between teachers and parents will be encouraged to resolve both general and specific issues. A concurrent community education programme will be developed to target areas of determined community need (e.g. in connection with the proposed Camp Development initiative). The programme will be continuously developing the ability to target new issues as they arise. A mental well-being programme will be developed for children with the direct input and support of parents, teachers and older children. Concerted effort will be made to involve all community members, encouraging an ethos of mutual and collective responsibility, particularly for children’s wellbeing. Children will participate in a continuous before- and after-school programme. One element of the programme will be a reduction in ambient and specific violent behaviour, thoughts and feelings. An inclusive approach and a gender perspective will be incorporated in all undertakings.
6. The protective approach will be institutionalized and sustained by conceptualising the project as an organizational change and learning initiative. It will be co-ordinated and managed by a Project Manager who will work closely with partners and stakeholders. It will build on other initiatives within UNRWA (special EP initiatives and the CMHP as well as the Camp Development Unit/Approach and Neirab Rehabilitation Project and others). Equally, it will seek to learn from other organisations’ good practice programs and child- and community-protective policy developments. In this way the project will contribute to the incipient development within UNRWA of a culture of human rights-based programming and integrated community engagement through involvement of all stakeholders in the change process. In the West Bank context, components from these good practice initiatives will be reframed/contextualized as a protection initiative using community-based development strategies. It will actively promote a shared analysis for improved programming through dialogue, partnerships and co-ordination at all levels in the context of a human rights-based approach.
7. The project will aim to help young people and children build a culture of protection through activities related to the PEF. Rights and protection issues will be introduced into activities planned by and run for/by young people, as well as for parents, teachers and others working with young people. The project will include development of a participatory monitoring tool/process to develop and maintain project quality standards, ensuring transparency and accountability in all activities and enforcing a code of conduct in all dealings with children and youth. Appropriate training through supported “learning by doing” will be developed. Violence in all its manifestations in young people’s lives – in schools, at home, at play and on the street and in the context of ongoing armed conflict and occupation – will be analyzed as an urgent protection and mental health concern. Anti-violence activities will be carried out in accordance with international standards and codes of ethics concerning the best interests of children and good practice in remedying protection failures. These will be established in coordination with those developed by the CMHP.
8. The project will select sites that are best suited to implementing the pilot, using schools, community centers, CBOs, UNRWA partnership structures and other sites as a locus for change. It will use and support existing relationships (teachers, parents, young people, others) or help to re-establish those relationships where they have broken down.
9. In all its undertakings the project will employ successfully tested creative approaches and innovative methodologies. The purpose is to involve stakeholders in planning, implementation and creative problem-solving to orchestrate change within UNRWA and in its partnership work with camp communities and other partners, and to support them in this process. By using a creative approach (including theatre and other arts) the project will aim to make the initiative an interesting and exciting learning experience.
10. A partnership approach will ensure that resources are co-ordinated and mobilized, including community members, UNRWA staff members and civil society and international partners, as well as budgets. New resources will be used to build on existing successes.
11. The project will be linked to wider organizational development and change initiatives within UNRWA (CDU, management reform, code of conduct development, other) and related efforts within departments. The Project Manager will assess existing capacity, carrying out rapid organisational reviews and proposing ways of strengthening capacities. The purpose will be to help facilitate cross-departmental learning, sharing good practice and ensuring that pilot initiatives are disseminated across the Agency. The aim is to create momentum for change on protection issues and support individual staff and departments in the process. In this way, the project will contribute to efforts to bring about organizational change rather than to remain limited to a one-off pilot initiative. It also will seek to act as a catalyst and focal point for regional learning, bringing in best practice from outside the organization, as well as facilitating learning within the organization and ensuring that it is shared in accessible ways with area teams.
Training:
Separate from the intensive training of counsellors affiliated with the EP and CMHP and development of curricula that will embed and sustain that intervention, the project will organize other training and organizational learning events, including some that have been successfully piloted in other projects in UNRWA. This will include the following:
12. A variety of conceptual, learning and organizational change initiatives will be developed based on the concept of ‘learning by doing’. Interventions will include mentoring, 1-to-1 support for staff, provision of information resources (where possible in Arabic), training and facilitating work with teams, and facilitating input from others. Such initiatives will enhance quality of work and learning from other projects, organizations and institutions, and develop and incorporate good practice. Wherever possible, links will be made to other initiatives and policy developments within UNRWA.
13. In order to involve young people in programs, the project will develop appropriate training approaches, such as “learning by doing”, through supported implementation initiatives, possibly commissioning existing trainers at other agencies, UN (e.g. UNICEF), INGO (e.g. Save the Children) and PNGO (e.g. Defense for Children International/Palestine section).
14. The project will organize a series of training workshops and establish peer support structures for teachers, youth workers and partners from other local agencies. This is best done by reviewing previous efforts and assessing lessons learned as well as coordinating closely with any similar undertakings by the CMHP.
15. Additional training will include protection issues, human/child rights awareness building, including rights-based approaches to development, women’s rights and gender analysis, Sustainable Livelihoods Approach and other.
16. The project will ensure that critical training, support and protection for staff working with young people is given on an ongoing basis and that appropriate procedures and structures are in place to protect children and youth and support the community in a sustainable manner.
17. Outcomes monitoring will employ a child and community participatory approach. Outcomes will be assessed on the basis of the measure-move-measure (Six Sigma) method, and in close co-ordination with the CMHP (See above on appropriate training to support development of a participatory monitoring tool/process).

Concept paper for a pilot project in a West Bank refugee camp
The goal of the proposed pilot project is to help create a protective environment in a refugee camp community that has suffered the effects of protracted displacement, armed conflict, pervasive internal violence, prolonged restrictions on movement and restricted access to quality services, occupation- and Barrier-induced deprivation of livelihood and resources, confiscation and destruction of assets, and socio-economic distress, unemployment and impoverishment.
Children and young people will be the focus of the project, as well as parents and others working with them, including teachers and other UNRWA staff (counsellors, community and youth workers).
Project model, description and components
1. Reflecting the principles and standards of the CRC, the project will use an adapted form of the Protective Environment Framework (PEF) to assist refugee children and young people who have “already suffered failures of protection, and may need help with physical and psychological recovery and social re-integration.” Additionally, in order to protect all young people from deliberate harm or its further infliction, the project will develop and reinforce elements that make up a protective environment at the community level. It will promote and reinforce children’s life skills, knowledge and participation; help to rebuild the protective capacity of families and communities; help to support and sustain protective essential services; and develop and support rebuilding of a protective culture and customs.
2. The project will be linked in a protection network with national and international entities focused on developing other components of the PEF, including monitoring and reporting on protection issues, promoting systemic change through government capacity building, legislation and enforcement; and encouraging civil society and media engagement with protection issues, including exposure of societal protection failures.
3. The project will adopt a protection-oriented human rights-based framework (inclusive of a participatory gender analysis). The project will also be conflict-sensitive, reflecting principles of international humanitarian law and ensuring that project initiatives are aimed at helping to protect children in armed conflict and conditions of prolonged occupation. Project interventions will employ participatory and other RBA principles and develop “protection assurance”, inclusive of outcomes-oriented baselines and monitoring capacities. Focusing on children and young people, the project will attend to the special needs of disabled, working and girl children and youth. It will reflect and develop good practice and codes of conduct.
4. In recognition of the wide-reaching effects of the WB’s economic crisis and high unemployment rate among youth, the project will seek to integrate development and private sector initiatives into the protective environment concept. It will employ development-oriented participatory approaches (e.g. Sustainable Livelihood Approach) and explore private sector partnerships and skills building projects (e.g. INJAZ and NASEEJ).
5. The project will be integrated with community-level UNRWA services, the Education Programme’s human rights and conflict-resolution/tolerance project, school parliament and other human rights and democracy projects, and the cross-cutting Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP). In connection with promotion of the relevant PEF factors listed above, CMHP counsellors will be trained in delivering a comprehensive “child in school in community” programme. This will, inter alia, provide input to existing community structures to improve general and specific mental well-being by providing frameworks and support for community self-support groups. Group members will be encouraged to develop their own sub-groups that can call on the CMHP for specific input. Teachers will be provided with training to deal with issues that concern them in their role as teachers, modellers and de facto community catalysers. Alliances between teachers and parents will be encouraged to resolve both general and specific issues. A concurrent community education programme will be developed to target areas of determined community need (e.g. in connection with the proposed Camp Development initiative). The programme will be continuously developing the ability to target new issues as they arise. A mental well-being programme will be developed for children with the direct input and support of parents, teachers and older children. Concerted effort will be made to involve all community members, encouraging an ethos of mutual and collective responsibility, particularly for children’s wellbeing. Children will participate in a continuous before- and after-school programme. One element of the programme will be a reduction in ambient and specific violent behaviour, thoughts and feelings. An inclusive approach and a gender perspective will be incorporated in all undertakings.
6. The protective approach will be institutionalized and sustained by conceptualising the project as an organizational change and learning initiative. It will be co-ordinated and managed by a Project Manager who will work closely with partners and stakeholders. It will build on other initiatives within UNRWA (special EP initiatives and the CMHP as well as the Camp Development Unit/Approach and Neirab Rehabilitation Project and others). Equally, it will seek to learn from other organisations’ good practice programs and child- and community-protective policy developments. In this way the project will contribute to the incipient development within UNRWA of a culture of human rights-based programming and integrated community engagement through involvement of all stakeholders in the change process. In the West Bank context, components from these good practice initiatives will be reframed/contextualized as a protection initiative using community-based development strategies. It will actively promote a shared analysis for improved programming through dialogue, partnerships and co-ordination at all levels in the context of a human rights-based approach.
7. The project will aim to help young people and children build a culture of protection through activities related to the PEF. Rights and protection issues will be introduced into activities planned by and run for/by young people, as well as for parents, teachers and others working with young people. The project will include development of a participatory monitoring tool/process to develop and maintain project quality standards, ensuring transparency and accountability in all activities and enforcing a code of conduct in all dealings with children and youth. Appropriate training through supported “learning by doing” will be developed. Violence in all its manifestations in young people’s lives – in schools, at home, at play and on the street and in the context of ongoing armed conflict and occupation – will be analyzed as an urgent protection and mental health concern. Anti-violence activities will be carried out in accordance with international standards and codes of ethics concerning the best interests of children and good practice in remedying protection failures. These will be established in coordination with those developed by the CMHP.
8. The project will select sites that are best suited to implementing the pilot, using schools, community centers, CBOs, UNRWA partnership structures and other sites as a locus for change. It will use and support existing relationships (teachers, parents, young people, others) or help to re-establish those relationships where they have broken down.
9. In all its undertakings the project will employ successfully tested creative approaches and innovative methodologies. The purpose is to involve stakeholders in planning, implementation and creative problem-solving to orchestrate change within UNRWA and in its partnership work with camp communities and other partners, and to support them in this process. By using a creative approach (including theatre and other arts) the project will aim to make the initiative an interesting and exciting learning experience.
10. A partnership approach will ensure that resources are co-ordinated and mobilized, including community members, UNRWA staff members and civil society and international partners, as well as budgets. New resources will be used to build on existing successes.
11. The project will be linked to wider organizational development and change initiatives within UNRWA (CDU, management reform, code of conduct development, other) and related efforts within departments. The Project Manager will assess existing capacity, carrying out rapid organisational reviews and proposing ways of strengthening capacities. The purpose will be to help facilitate cross-departmental learning, sharing good practice and ensuring that pilot initiatives are disseminated across the Agency. The aim is to create momentum for change on protection issues and support individual staff and departments in the process. In this way, the project will contribute to efforts to bring about organizational change rather than to remain limited to a one-off pilot initiative. It also will seek to act as a catalyst and focal point for regional learning, bringing in best practice from outside the organization, as well as facilitating learning within the organization and ensuring that it is shared in accessible ways with area teams.
Training:
Separate from the intensive training of counsellors affiliated with the EP and CMHP and development of curricula that will embed and sustain that intervention, the project will organize other training and organizational learning events, including some that have been successfully piloted in other projects in UNRWA. This will include the following:
12. A variety of conceptual, learning and organizational change initiatives will be developed based on the concept of ‘learning by doing’. Interventions will include mentoring, 1-to-1 support for staff, provision of information resources (where possible in Arabic), training and facilitating work with teams, and facilitating input from others. Such initiatives will enhance quality of work and learning from other projects, organizations and institutions, and develop and incorporate good practice. Wherever possible, links will be made to other initiatives and policy developments within UNRWA.
13. In order to involve young people in programs, the project will develop appropriate training approaches, such as “learning by doing”, through supported implementation initiatives, possibly commissioning existing trainers at other agencies, UN (e.g. UNICEF), INGO (e.g. Save the Children) and PNGO (e.g. Defense for Children International/Palestine section).
14. The project will organize a series of training workshops and establish peer support structures for teachers, youth workers and partners from other local agencies. This is best done by reviewing previous efforts and assessing lessons learned as well as coordinating closely with any similar undertakings by the CMHP.
15. Additional training will include protection issues, human/child rights awareness building, including rights-based approaches to development, women’s rights and gender analysis, Sustainable Livelihoods Approach and other.
16. The project will ensure that critical training, support and protection for staff working with young people is given on an ongoing basis and that appropriate procedures and structures are in place to protect children and youth and support the community in a sustainable manner.
17. Outcomes monitoring will employ a child and community participatory approach. Outcomes will be assessed on the basis of the measure-move-measure (Six Sigma) method, and in close co-ordination with the CMHP (See above on appropriate training to support development of a participatory monitoring tool/process).

Concept paper for a pilot project in a West Bank refugee camp
The goal of the proposed pilot project is to help create a protective environment in a refugee camp community that has suffered the effects of protracted displacement, armed conflict, pervasive internal violence, prolonged restrictions on movement and restricted access to quality services, occupation- and Barrier-induced deprivation of livelihood and resources, confiscation and destruction of assets, and socio-economic distress, unemployment and impoverishment.
Children and young people will be the focus of the project, as well as parents and others working with them, including teachers and other UNRWA staff (counsellors, community and youth workers).
Project model, description and components
1. Reflecting the principles and standards of the CRC, the project will use an adapted form of the Protective Environment Framework (PEF) to assist refugee children and young people who have “already suffered failures of protection, and may need help with physical and psychological recovery and social re-integration.” Additionally, in order to protect all young people from deliberate harm or its further infliction, the project will develop and reinforce elements that make up a protective environment at the community level. It will promote and reinforce children’s life skills, knowledge and participation; help to rebuild the protective capacity of families and communities; help to support and sustain protective essential services; and develop and support rebuilding of a protective culture and customs.
2. The project will be linked in a protection network with national and international entities focused on developing other components of the PEF, including monitoring and reporting on protection issues, promoting systemic change through government capacity building, legislation and enforcement; and encouraging civil society and media engagement with protection issues, including exposure of societal protection failures.
3. The project will adopt a protection-oriented human rights-based framework (inclusive of a participatory gender analysis). The project will also be conflict-sensitive, reflecting principles of international humanitarian law and ensuring that project initiatives are aimed at helping to protect children in armed conflict and conditions of prolonged occupation. Project interventions will employ participatory and other RBA principles and develop “protection assurance”, inclusive of outcomes-oriented baselines and monitoring capacities. Focusing on children and young people, the project will attend to the special needs of disabled, working and girl children and youth. It will reflect and develop good practice and codes of conduct.
4. In recognition of the wide-reaching effects of the WB’s economic crisis and high unemployment rate among youth, the project will seek to integrate development and private sector initiatives into the protective environment concept. It will employ development-oriented participatory approaches (e.g. Sustainable Livelihood Approach) and explore private sector partnerships and skills building projects (e.g. INJAZ and NASEEJ).
5. The project will be integrated with community-level UNRWA services, the Education Programme’s human rights and conflict-resolution/tolerance project, school parliament and other human rights and democracy projects, and the cross-cutting Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP). In connection with promotion of the relevant PEF factors listed above, CMHP counsellors will be trained in delivering a comprehensive “child in school in community” programme. This will, inter alia, provide input to existing community structures to improve general and specific mental well-being by providing frameworks and support for community self-support groups. Group members will be encouraged to develop their own sub-groups that can call on the CMHP for specific input. Teachers will be provided with training to deal with issues that concern them in their role as teachers, modellers and de facto community catalysers. Alliances between teachers and parents will be encouraged to resolve both general and specific issues. A concurrent community education programme will be developed to target areas of determined community need (e.g. in connection with the proposed Camp Development initiative). The programme will be continuously developing the ability to target new issues as they arise. A mental well-being programme will be developed for children with the direct input and support of parents, teachers and older children. Concerted effort will be made to involve all community members, encouraging an ethos of mutual and collective responsibility, particularly for children’s wellbeing. Children will participate in a continuous before- and after-school programme. One element of the programme will be a reduction in ambient and specific violent behaviour, thoughts and feelings. An inclusive approach and a gender perspective will be incorporated in all undertakings.
6. The protective approach will be institutionalized and sustained by conceptualising the project as an organizational change and learning initiative. It will be co-ordinated and managed by a Project Manager who will work closely with partners and stakeholders. It will build on other initiatives within UNRWA (special EP initiatives and the CMHP as well as the Camp Development Unit/Approach and Neirab Rehabilitation Project and others). Equally, it will seek to learn from other organisations’ good practice programs and child- and community-protective policy developments. In this way the project will contribute to the incipient development within UNRWA of a culture of human rights-based programming and integrated community engagement through involvement of all stakeholders in the change process. In the West Bank context, components from these good practice initiatives will be reframed/contextualized as a protection initiative using community-based development strategies. It will actively promote a shared analysis for improved programming through dialogue, partnerships and co-ordination at all levels in the context of a human rights-based approach.
7. The project will aim to help young people and children build a culture of protection through activities related to the PEF. Rights and protection issues will be introduced into activities planned by and run for/by young people, as well as for parents, teachers and others working with young people. The project will include development of a participatory monitoring tool/process to develop and maintain project quality standards, ensuring transparency and accountability in all activities and enforcing a code of conduct in all dealings with children and youth. Appropriate training through supported “learning by doing” will be developed. Violence in all its manifestations in young people’s lives – in schools, at home, at play and on the street and in the context of ongoing armed conflict and occupation – will be analyzed as an urgent protection and mental health concern. Anti-violence activities will be carried out in accordance with international standards and codes of ethics concerning the best interests of children and good practice in remedying protection failures. These will be established in coordination with those developed by the CMHP.
8. The project will select sites that are best suited to implementing the pilot, using schools, community centers, CBOs, UNRWA partnership structures and other sites as a locus for change. It will use and support existing relationships (teachers, parents, young people, others) or help to re-establish those relationships where they have broken down.
9. In all its undertakings the project will employ successfully tested creative approaches and innovative methodologies. The purpose is to involve stakeholders in planning, implementation and creative problem-solving to orchestrate change within UNRWA and in its partnership work with camp communities and other partners, and to support them in this process. By using a creative approach (including theatre and other arts) the project will aim to make the initiative an interesting and exciting learning experience.
10. A partnership approach will ensure that resources are co-ordinated and mobilized, including community members, UNRWA staff members and civil society and international partners, as well as budgets. New resources will be used to build on existing successes.
11. The project will be linked to wider organizational development and change initiatives within UNRWA (CDU, management reform, code of conduct development, other) and related efforts within departments. The Project Manager will assess existing capacity, carrying out rapid organisational reviews and proposing ways of strengthening capacities. The purpose will be to help facilitate cross-departmental learning, sharing good practice and ensuring that pilot initiatives are disseminated across the Agency. The aim is to create momentum for change on protection issues and support individual staff and departments in the process. In this way, the project will contribute to efforts to bring about organizational change rather than to remain limited to a one-off pilot initiative. It also will seek to act as a catalyst and focal point for regional learning, bringing in best practice from outside the organization, as well as facilitating learning within the organization and ensuring that it is shared in accessible ways with area teams.
Training:
Separate from the intensive training of counsellors affiliated with the EP and CMHP and development of curricula that will embed and sustain that intervention, the project will organize other training and organizational learning events, including some that have been successfully piloted in other projects in UNRWA. This will include the following:
12. A variety of conceptual, learning and organizational change initiatives will be developed based on the concept of ‘learning by doing’. Interventions will include mentoring, 1-to-1 support for staff, provision of information resources (where possible in Arabic), training and facilitating work with teams, and facilitating input from others. Such initiatives will enhance quality of work and learning from other projects, organizations and institutions, and develop and incorporate good practice. Wherever possible, links will be made to other initiatives and policy developments within UNRWA.
13. In order to involve young people in programs, the project will develop appropriate training approaches, such as “learning by doing”, through supported implementation initiatives, possibly commissioning existing trainers at other agencies, UN (e.g. UNICEF), INGO (e.g. Save the Children) and PNGO (e.g. Defense for Children International/Palestine section).
14. The project will organize a series of training workshops and establish peer support structures for teachers, youth workers and partners from other local agencies. This is best done by reviewing previous efforts and assessing lessons learned as well as coordinating closely with any similar undertakings by the CMHP.
15. Additional training will include protection issues, human/child rights awareness building, including rights-based approaches to development, women’s rights and gender analysis, Sustainable Livelihoods Approach and other.
16. The project will ensure that critical training, support and protection for staff working with young people is given on an ongoing basis and that appropriate procedures and structures are in place to protect children and youth and support the community in a sustainable manner.
17. Outcomes monitoring will employ a child and community participatory approach. Outcomes will be assessed on the basis of the measure-move-measure (Six Sigma) method, and in close co-ordination with the CMHP (See above on appropriate training to support development of a participatory monitoring tool/process).

17. ستستخدم الرقابة على الإنتاج نهج الطفل والمجتمع المحلي التشاركي. وسيتم تقييم الإنتاج على أساس طريقة الخطوة تجر خطوة (معايير سيغما الستة)، وبالتنسيق المباشر مع برنامج الصحة العقلية للمجتمعات المحلية ((CMHP (أنظر ما ذكر أعلاه حول التدريب الملائم لدعم تنمية أداة/عملية الرقابة).

I have been working in translation since 2000 for a number of agencies and clients, mainly: UNRWA, UNESCO, PA- Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth and Tourism, translating reports, bids, medical brochures and news articles as well as legal contracys and court proceedings.
In 2003, I progressively entered into technical translation markets, undertaking a number of considerable projects related to digital cameras, mobiles, TVs and other electoronic equipment to be localized.
I work professionally with Office XP 2003, Trados and PDF formats.
Availability: 11:00 A. M. - 10:00 P.M (GMT Time)- also woring on holidays (Friday and saturday).
