1000Base技術
1000Baseのことを「Gigabit Ethernet」という。Gigabit Ethernetは文字通り1Gbps（1000Mbps）のEthernetであり、これまでの10Mbps Ethernetと100Mbps Ethernetとの互換性を採るため、CSMA/CDとし、IEEE802.3ｚで標準化が1998年６月26日Draft5.1で決定した。しかし、意外と速くならない可能性もある。
10Mbps／100Mbpsの場合は、64バイト送ろうとすると、素直に64バイトである。これに対して1000Mbpsの場合は64バイト送っても512バイトになる。448のむだが発生する。すなわち効率は12％である。これに対して10Mbps／100Mbpsの場合の効率は76％である。５倍も効率がよい。スピードが速くなっても10倍にはならない。結局、ギガビットの場合は、アプリケーションをチューニングして一つのパケットサイズを大きくするといった対応をとる必要がある。
このようなことを考えると衝突の影響がない全二重通信での構築が必要であることが分かる。
当初、標準化は1998年の春(3月末)の予定だったが、1000BASE-SXの伝送において、米国の光ファイバーケーブルの品質問題があり、これへの対応のため規格化が延びた。ちなみに品質の問題とは、コアの中心部分の屈折率が安定していない（屈折率が低い）ことであった。このため光の伝播が安定しないため、当初予定していた260mの伝送距離が保証できないという問題（DMD）であった。
対応策として、コアの中心部分に光を通さないCL方式を新しく規格化することになった。個人的には、日本の光ファイバーの品質は非常に高いので、日本においては、この問題はないと考える（念のため減衰テストを実施することをお勧めする）。
ATMに対するメリットとデメリット
LANに関する限りGigabit Ethernetに軍配が上がっている。ATMが向いているのはWANである。価格的にも約３倍の差がある。ATMが出てきて相当期間になるが、Gigabit Ethernetは出て１年である。それで３倍の格差がある。今後さらにGigabit Ethernet製品ほうが安くなるといえる。
LANとして使用する場合、ATMは速くない。フレーム変換をしなければならない。フレームは48バイトと小さい。53バイトで48バイトが中身である。これはデータ転送向きでない。音声通信向きである。データ通信だけをするのであればGigabit Ethernetに比べて高くて遅い。したがって、LANの中で使用するのであればGigabit Ethernetに完全に軍配が上がる。

朝鮮語
使用地域と変種 朝鮮語は朝鮮半島の北部を占める朝鮮民主主義人民共和国と，南部の大韓民国の国語であり，ほとんど単一民族の様相を呈している．北朝鮮の人口は2227万，韓国は4727万である．これ以外に，中国でも180万以上の朝鮮族が居住しており，旧ソビエトにも40万以上が住む．スターリンによる強制移住政策の結果，カザフスタンやウズベキスタンなど，中央アジアにも朝鮮族が居住している．朝鮮は1910年から1945年まで日本の植民地となっており，この時代に朝鮮人の日本への強制連行も行われた．日本に住む朝鮮人は70万人ほどと言われる．韓国からの移民は米国やオーストラリアなどにも及んでいる．朝鮮半島以外での朝鮮語話者は，バイリンガル社会で生活している場合が多い．朝鮮語はこうして7000万人を超える話者を有している．
