My family originally came from Portugal, and then Mozambique, finally settling in Zimbabwe. I therefore have a strong command of Portuguese, and am a native speaker of English.
With this rich cultural heritage, and a natural flair for languages, I then undertook a Dual Honours degree in French and Portuguese, graduating in 1988. Since that time, I have done quite a lot of studying, and my qualifications include a Diplôme de Traducteur Commercial, UN FAO Certification of Advanced Proficiency in French, and Spanish DELI Certificate. Furthermore, I have trained as a computer and networking technician, a counsellor and a personnel manager.
I have worked extensively on several large projects, such as the translation of business development manuals, as well as all the promotional materials, which included posters, videos and brochures (over 1 million words in total).
The most recent translations I have done are: Pension Plan - 13,716 words; Food Standards Act - 8,219 words; Financial Institutions Act - 6,216 words, Women of Hope radio series - 20,958 words, the Natural Resources Act - 17,501 words, Poverty Alleviation Strategy - 17,170 words and Telecommunications Licence - 7,069 words.
My main areas of expertise are legal and technical texts, as well as political science and sociology. I have done business managent translation as well. I am interested in lexicology and the development of terminologies and to this end have an extensive database of terminologies which I have compiled over the years.
Major accomplishments:
