Bernie Bierman has been an industrial translator since 1959, and since that time has translated around 40 million words in such diverse subjects as insurance and insurance law; banking, finance and accounting; contract, corporate, commercial and admiralty law; civil, mechanical and electrical engineering; marine and maritime subjects, including marine engineering; petroleum engineering and petrochemistry; telecommunications; transportation and various other subject areas falling into the broad framework of industrial translation.

He is the former President of AdEx Translations International, Inc., a leading industrial translation service company. Between 1971 and 1978 he was Vice-President of Ad-Ex Translations Ltd., the British affiliate of AdEx Translations International, Inc. AdEx Translations International, Inc. was sold by Mr. Bierman in 1995.

In addition to his work as a translator and translation manager, he has been closely involved in numerous and diverse aspects of the translating profession.

In 1991, Mr. Bierman expanded his field of endeavor by providing consulting services to translation companies; he has also since that time brokered the sale of several translation companies.

Mr. Bierman is the author of some 215 articles on translation and translation-related subjects, including a book, "A Translator-Warrior Speaks", which is a history of the American Translators Association.

He served several terms as a director of the American Translators Association, and is a past President of one of that Association's local chapters.

In addition, between 1984-1992, he was senior faculty member of the Translation Studies Department of New York University, holding the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor of Foreign Languages. He was also Managing Editor of TRANSLATION NEWS, a trade publication, for 7 years (1989-95).

He translates from Spanish, French, Portuguese and Catalan exclusively into English.

Mr. Bierman is currently a freelance translator and business consultant. He is listed in the "International Who's Who in Translation & Terminology.
