ACE inhibitors may cause a fall in blood pressure. Symptomatic hypotension is seen rarely in uncomplicated hypertensive patients and is more likely to occur in patients who have been volume-depleted e.g. by diuretic therapy, dietary salt restriction, dialysis, diarrhoea or vomiting, or who have severe renin-dependent hypertension. In patients with symptomatic heart failure, with or without associated renal insufficiency, symptomatic hypotension has been observed. This is most likely to occur in those patients with more severe degrees of heart failure, as reflected by the use of high doses of loop diuretics, hyponatraemia or functional renal impairment. In patients at increased risk of symptomatic hypotension, initiation of therapy and dose adjustment should be closely monitored. BOTAS DE POTRO - GAUCHO RAW HIDE BOOTS
It is a tube-like boot made of raw leather in one piece, without sewing, that tightens leg and foot .they were mainly worn in the country-side. It is taken from the back extremities of donkeys, colts, calves and mares.
It is also made of the leather of the wild cat or of the back legs of the puma or "yaguareté" (kind of jaguar). From all these varieties the favourite of the "gauchos" were the ones made of colt leather.
The "bota de potro" was worn by rural labourers from the XVII century. This kind of boot, functional and rustic, was popular by muleskinners, cowboys, "sebeadores"(people who killed the cows to use only the leather and the "sebo" (fat).
With the rapid growth of cattle, colts were substituted by calves and cows, which were slaughtered for the "sebeada", and whose pieces of leather were small and light and therefore less interesting for commercial purposes as leather of bulls and bullocks.
Later, due to economical reasons, the boots were made once again of horse leather, not with colt-leather, but with the leather of the mare, a very cheap animal at that time.
The "bota de potro" slowly disappeared because of the rising prices of horse and cattle leather, and due to the development of industrially made shoes for rural use: the "alpargata", which was cheap and easy to get.
To make the "bota de potro", the leather of the back legs of a horse was taken in one piece, it was cleaned of every piece of skin and then it was crumpled. This tube of leather adapted to the leg and foot of the man, the curve of the paw formed the heel.
The toe was left open to let the rider leave his toes bare and so he could rest on the famous "button" stirrups. A similar kind of boot, much softer and considered a luxurious article, was made of leather of the wild cats, leaving the hair and original colour. | Translation - French
« BOTAS DE POTRO » : BOTTES EN CUIR BRUT DES GAUCHOS
Il s’agissait d’une botte cylindrique composée d’une seule pièce de cuir brut sans aucune couture, qui enserrait la jambe et le pied et qui était principalement portée à la campagne. La peau était prélevée sur les membres postérieurs des ânes, des poulains, des veaux ou des juments.
Elle pouvait également être fabriquée avec la peau du chat sauvage ou le cuir brut issu des pattes arrières du puma ou du « yaguareté » (sorte de jaguar). Parmi toutes ces variantes, les gauchos préféraient les bottes confectionnées avec du cuir de poulain.
La bota de potro était portée par les ouvriers agricoles au 17e siècle. Ce type de botte, fonctionnel et rustique, était apprécié des muletiers, des cow-boys et des « sebeadores » (personnes qui tuaient les vaches uniquement pour utiliser le cuir et le « sebo » (la graisse)).
Avec la rapide multiplication des têtes de bétail, les poulains furent remplacés par des veaux et des vaches qui étaient abattus pour la « sebeada » et dont les pièces de cuir était petites et légères, donc moins intéressantes d’un point de vue commercial que le cuir des taureaux et des bœufs.
Plus tard, des raisons économiques imposèrent le retour au cuir de cheval. Cette fois, les poulains étaient épargnés aux dépens des juments, des animaux très bon marché à l’époque.
La bota de potro disparut progressivement avec la hausse du prix du cuir de cheval et de bovin et le développement d’une chaussure de fabrication industrielle, à usage rural : l’alpargata (espadrille), peu onéreuse et facilement disponible.
Pour fabriquer la bota de potro, il fallait prélever la peau des postérieurs d’un cheval d’un seul tenant, retirer les morceaux de chair et chiffonner la peau. Ce cylindre de cuir s’adaptait sur la jambe et le pied d’un homme, le coude de la patte formant le talon.
Le bout n’était pas fermé afin que le cavalier puisse laisser ses orteils à l’air libre et les reposer sur les fameux étriers « boutons ». Une botte similaire, plus souple et considérée comme un article de luxe, était confectionnée avec le cuir des chats sauvages, le poil et la couleur originale étant laissés tels quels. |
